I have to write this early because John and I will be spending a good part of the next 20 or so hours on 9 different trains. We are trying to make our way south without paying the reservation fees. I hope we make all of the transfers.

The bus trip up to Brussels was fairly uneventful, save for a near accident near Gallieni during which the bus driver yelled “t’es un vrai con!” at another driver, and we arrived shortly after 2 pm into the Gare du Nord. ... models were built by expert modelers from the mid 1980s for a hefty price and sadly not maintained very well. Some of them had pieces broken or missing and that is probably the reason why they are closing after this year. Walking around the park, for each country there was a sign and a music button that played the national anthem and the booklet described a few of the facts and figures.

... and had some lunch outside. It was a very a pretty setting, and I had the same lunch I had most days: Croque Monsieur - Grilled cheese and ham on bread. And each one has been different! And we each had huge beers! We did some shopping for a coworker of bob's who wanted some special chocolates for her daughter, had to go to many shops to find it! We returned to be given the worst room in the hotel ...

... the Galleries Royals St Hubert, a famous 19th century shopping centre where I once performed in a choir... or behind the choir... without them really knowing... or approving. We were so overcome by the splendour of the place that we accidentally fell into a chocolate shop! Next thing we knew, we were back in the arcade, giggling over a bag of chocolates!

Freshly energised, we decided to return to the Grand Place to see it lit up ...
