    ... stayed 2 nights before coming to Cologne to see my brother. First big culture shock was on the street fest: so many people! So many different looking people, so terribly dressed, looking tired and sick, so white. I don't mean to be judging, don't get me wrong, that is how I felt, honestly.     ... is going to skip this tour since it has about 100 small, narrow steps involved, and also a long climb up the hill. His knee is just not up to it, so I'll go with Kath and Ric. Tomorrow afternoon should be the most scenic part of the cruise, as we're supposed to see spectacular views as we sail along the Middle Rhine. (I think this must be a part that you see on the Viking commercials!) Hope to post some good pictures tomorrow.

    We are staying in Amsterdam tonight at the Hampshire Hotel. Our train went via Cologne and we were able to go out from the station and see the massive Cologne Cathedral. It's right on a massive square directly outside the train station. Handy! As soon as we crossed into The Netherlands we saw bikes, bikes and more bikes! Everyone young and old rides everywhere here.     ... x 3, had lots of gilt and beautiful carvings and supposedly the remains of the Magi. The archbiship supported the Crusades so that was their reward. They built the cathedral to house it. The mosaics on the floor tell the story of the cathedral. There are exquisite windows as well.
