The way home

... shouldn't have taken the first agent's word for it. Seemed to be ships sailing at all hours - must surely have been one with space on it overnight? Definitely the only way to do this route. However, we get by: but I wouldn't recommend Ventourist line: cheap, for sure; but tacky -very, very tacky!Another night in an anonymous port.

Reading Railroad

... br>Basically, the story is the first-person account of a middle aged half-Japanese woman working in Tokyo who finds that her sister and only friend/foil at high school have both been murdered while working as prostitutes. Her own relationships to the victims are tortured to say the least, and the story flips back and forth between their recollections and the court proceedings.

I dunno. The most compelling ...

... main street and walked up looking at the shops, looking inside the house of a wealthy politician that has been well preserved. Back on the street they still had working water fountains, well preserved signs and we wandered off towards the main square and the forum. We looked inside the cages that hold the remains of the artifacts, including the casts of the bodies that are also on display at the Melbourne Museaum. Enzo then took us to ...

Arriving in Bari - Basilicata here we come!

... Italian, it was little surprise to find that this was once part of ancient Magna Graecia; in fact you are more likely to stumble upon Greek temples than you are Roman ruins. Known in Italy as a land of myth and fable, this little region was clearly full of surprises.

Whenever I think back to the first day in Basilicata, images of mountains, beautiful scenery and sunny skies fill my thoughts - a lovely start to the holiday!

This is a small world.

Woke up at the Hostel early to a catch our train.

Took an hour long train to Napoli. In Napoli we had about 45 minutes till our next train, so we decided to get coffee. Apparently here, you go the the register (before you can look at anything) and order what you want. Then you take it to the counter and they give you what you ordered...crazy. Well after 3 attempts each at a ...

Trulli in Puglia

This is where Pietro, an old Italian guy, jumped into Bruce and navigated us to the trulli. He saved us from a traffic jam in the narrow streets of Puglia.

Pete was also called Pietro while in Italy. :-)

Trullo comes from the Greek word, "tholos" – meaning “dome”. See the pictures of the wee houses.

We found the Belvedere pub here too - also the name of our local in Aus – meaning “beautiful view”. It was beautiful.

Plain sailing?

... sorted out, I was quite prepared to fight my corner as I expected them to try to make an administration charge, for once it was easier than I expected, they gave in straight away, well when I say straight away after 20 minutes of being a one woman queue and being diligently ignored. I decided to spend the afternoon in the carpark at the port awaiting embarkation, I spent my time listening to a good audio book and sifting out what may be necessary for my ...

and back onto the roundabout

... there was a throne there too we noticed in the morning, no idea who had sat on it. Saw cute little 'trulli' houses dotted about all over the place, found an old ramshackle one to have a look at which meant I had to gently work my way thru a field of brambles (tricky business in a pair of shorts) on our way to the ferry at Bari. We now in Greece and this is the first time found net since Tuscany except on the boat. Not had chance to download all the pics, having trouble accessing lena's ...

Three ferries in thirty-six hours

... then went to a park. I stretched out on a park bench, with my head in Michelle's lap, and napped in the sun while Michelle read her book. We still had time to kill before our next ferry to Greece, so we had pizza at a restaurant called Gusto. It was a little expensive, and Michelle ran into the usual problem of ordering a small salad and ending up with a ten dollar bowl of iceberg lettuce, but the mozzarella on my pizza was hands down the best I've ever had. Viva la Italy!
