    ... it was a beach day so after our usual breakfast of chocolate chip brioche with jam we made the trek back up the sand dune and over the other side to the beach. We had a nice relaxing day and Jim even took his inflatable kayak that I had got him for his birthday and had fun playing around in the water. That night we went back up the dune, taking some extra layers with us and watched the sunset.

    ... been naughty taking their photo but they were enjoying life so much I couldn't resist. Its been a lovely day and at the moment Kerry is chief chef and has made rissoles without flour, as we have none and has just had to make do with whats in the cupboard. He has done a fine job. I have to tell you about French supermarkets. I start to salivate as I enter as there is so much choice and its all so delicious. So many cheeses, meats, salamis, ...

    ... to be made between continuing on the regular route or turning off onto the long route. The threat of rain didn't seem serious enough to really worry about so I chose the long route and Peter, Sue and Mesfin joined me. Wayne and Lori seemed interested, too, but Lori picked up a staple in one of her tires while we were at lunch--first puncture of the trip--and had to take care of that.

    We had a nice opening ride today, about 110 km of flat country. While it was nice to cycle on the flat, it was a bit boring. A lot of it could have been in eastern Ontario with fields of corn and soy.
    We did see mounded crops which I thought were asparagus, but apparently are some sort of fruit, the name of which I did not recognize.

    The staff at the front desk were clearly challenged by the arrival of 18 guest with bicycles early in the morning so we set to work assembling our bikes in the parking lot. The weather looked cool and wet as we were landing but it was dry despite being a bit overcast.
