Historical Traveler Reviews Mareblue Beach Resort Agios Spyridonas
We had a fantastic time at Blue Bay in July 07. There isnt much to do outside of the complex but we only left the hotel twice anyway. The food is great. Lots to choose from (if you dont put weight on my the end of the week then there is something seriously wrong!!) and the entertainment is great. There are staff there doing water polo, water aerobics, stretches, darts, spoon fishing etc etc. You can do an activity just about any time of the day!
The night entertainment is a bit sketchy. It depends on your taste really.
The bar is good. If you like your bacardi breezer style drinks then drink the kumquor (?sp), beer is free as is vodka so there is a decent range of alcoholic beverages.
All in all a very good week!
We booked a late deal to Blue Bay and had a great time. Some of the other reviews had mentioned that there were lots of mosquitos and wasps - they must have been on holiday when we arrived because it wasn't any worse than anywhere else! The food was of a good standard in the main restaurant and the lunches at poolside were good too. Snacks however were limited to frozen mini pizzas and hot dogs, although if you were lucky some days you could grab a souvlaki. Unfortunately the old German custom of sunbed grabbing in alive and kicking here so unless you are prepared to be up at the crack of dawn you can always do what i did and just move towels from unoccupied beds!! Plenty of Scots, Germans,Dutch, Scandinavians and not a lot of " Southerners" so all in all great unless you like to hear Oi Oi every two minutes. Entertainment team were quite good although the first choice reps omitted to tell us about the 2 hour queue outside the airport on the way home which seems to be the norm. The views from this hotel are among the best i've seen and the accomodation itself is very good. Be aware that some of the tavernas at the local beach will try to rip you off by giving you "free bread, butter, olives etc" and then charging you for it! when i challenged the owner he replied " you eat, yes" Comedy genius!! You live you learn. Do try the free bus to Kassiopi, its a beautiful place and book excursions hear as it is at least a 1/3 rd cheaper than the travel agency!
Loved Blue Bay Escape
Flew out early morning to Corfu and was very excited at the prospect of staying at Blue Bay Escape as we had some friends stay there previously, and boy we were not dissapointed. Checking in, we were told to tell the porters our room number and they would deliver our luggage to the room while we had a walk round the beautifully landscaped gardens. After a wander round we went back to the apartment to unpack and get ready for dinner in the main area near reception. We were welcomed by the Maitre'D who showed us to our table and we were approached immediately by the waiting staff to take our drinks orders. Buffet service is the order of the day and the food is absolutely out of this world. Great entertainment throughout the day by the entertainment team. Chicco, the team leader, we know from a previous holiday in Tunisia, and his team are absolutely fantastic. The reps: James, Jason, Blair & Ashley are fabtastic, nothing was ever too much trouble, but I must make a special mention to the kids reps who looked after our three: Tastic Tracy, Loopy Liverpool Laura, Hyper Heidi & Awesome Ashley - girls you were all fantastic and we miss you loads!!
The whole complex was out of this world and EVERY member of staff looked after us and made this our best holiday ever.
Another couple of special mentions and then I'll leave you all to make up your minds with the help of some photos:
Spyro - Operations Manager and the owners son - I actually thought this guy was a cockney and not a corfiot, a superstar
Costa - Barman Extraordinaire - quiet but always remembered what drink I wanted when I got to the bar
Nicos - The coach driver that drove the double decker coach from the airport to BBE - what a guiy, I wouldnt drive a car round some of those roads but this hero handled his coach, which he is very proud of and respectfully asks you not to eat or drink on it, with superstar perfection.
I could go on forever about BBE, but I dont think I have enough room - We WILL be booking to go back there soon......
Fantastic Holiday-in every way
A truly great holiday, booked as a last minute deal as an alternative to camping in the rain in the UK!!
From the minute we arrived we were pleasantly suprised by the cleanliness of the place, this was true throughout the duration of our holiday and the staff there work incredibly hard to ensure this.
The staff at the hotel are really friendly and will share a joke with you if you are willing to make the effort.
The food was great.. something to suit everyone and something different on the menu every night.. great for those who want to be a bit adventurous and try something new.
The resort, I would say is really centrerd around families and the entertainment is very much geared that way but for those couples looking just to chill out and relax this is a perfect haven as there are a couple of nearby beaches where you can escape to, overlooking mountains, hearing the waves crashing..perfect!
Recommended as a definate for 1 week, but may get a bit samey if you were there for 2. Also, the weather was Mega Hot so if you struggle with the sun, there really isnt anywhere that you can escape to, other than your hotel room.. nothing to spend your euros on..and beleive me, i tried!!
All in all though, a really great holiday, highly recommended.
Relaxing at the blue bay escape resort
me and my boyfriend have just returned home (on the 6th july) after reading reviews before we went we were worried about mozzies and wasps. however, we both loved it there it was lovely and peaceful and there were a total of 2 wasps (that didnt bother anyone) and as for the mozzies i didnt get bitten at all but my boyfriend did - 4 times. aslong as you use the moz spray (or in the shop next to the hotel you can buy a roll on (that was highly recommended by other guests).
i would definately stay here again it is beautiful (especially the scenary - lake agios spyridon to the left and across the sea you can see clearly albania.
all of the staff are very helpful and friendly.
if you do stay here and want to go on any trips don't go with the reps!! there's a little gate by the pool, turn left and keep walking you'll find a travel shop thats loads cheaper than the reps (e.g. we went on a boat cruise that ended up on a beach for BBQ and games - this was 42 euros each from reps, but at the travel shop it was only 22 euros each. also ith the reps you have to find your own transport to the harbours etc but all trnsfers are included in price with the travel shop.) also, if you are wanting an east coast cruise, if you go down to kassiopi harbour (where the bus drops you) then there is a man in a little boat that takes you on it and around the blue caves and possibly paxos) for 15 euros (which is much cheaper than the reps and is also slightly cheaper than the travel shop). he leaves the harbour at 10.30a.m. so i would be there by 10 if you can. he seemed very friendly and pleasant (if we had had more time then we would have gone)
the location - it is quite a distance from other places (i.e. in the middle of nowhere) but there are 2 courtesy buses that go to the neighbouring towns (kassiopi and acharavi) and they also pick you up again.they run twice in the morning and twice in the evening. if you dont want to get the bus then a taxi back from acharavi is about 12 euros (according to the reception staff). if you are thinking of going shpping for gifts then we found acharai much better than kassiopi.
it is in the middle of nowhere but everywhere is quite accessable through bus or taxis and it's so peaceful (as its right next to a nature reserve)
the accomodation is VERY clean and theres always people at reception or around the pool etc if you need anything. and the apartments are HUGE!
the entertainment is fantastic (although watchout for albear (sp?) as he will come after you if you refuse to join in. there is always some kind of entertainment going on, although even with all of this happening it is still amazingly relaxing. The rep night is by far the best entertainment night, we joined in with the games on stage and it was hilarious!! (although i did crush someones foot whilst running to the chair....oops!)
all inclusive drinks (which you can get 4 at a time - possibly more) are ouzo (aniseedy taste), metaxa (brandy - nice with coke!!), gin, koumkuat (tastes like tangerine - usually served with lemonade) and vodka. and then you also have coke, sprite, fanta, fanta lemon, etc and tea and coffee.
lunch time at the pool - the que can be very big at times but we found it was smallest between 2 and 3pm.
f you dont fancy the evening entertainment at the hotel then there is a bar (valentino's cocktail/beach bar) that shows films (we watched oceans 13) on a big screen. and drinks are 2.80e for a mythos (beer) and 4e for vodka and coke. they also give you a bowl of crisps and one of nuts (peanuts, pistachio's and salted almond) which they top up throughout the night free of charge.
ok, i think thats it. apart from the blue bay escape resort hotel is the only hotel on the island where you can drink the tap water as it as been specially filtered. (the rep will tell you this on the transfer from the airport).
enjoy your stay and dont be put off by reviews about wasps of mozzies
Realxing beach holiday in lovley surroundings
me and my boyfriend booked our holiday to Blue Bay as a last minute deal with first choice, we only went for a week and we went all inclusive which we never normally do in Europe... but it was only £230 each so we couldnt argue with the price! We werent expecting much - i hadnt been able to find any decent reviews on the place and there werent any reviews at all opn trip advisor! But like i said it was cheap - it was going to be hot and it was on the beach - thats all we wanted.
Turns out we had a lovely time. The grounds of the apartments are landscaped beautifully and the blocks of rooms thoughtfully laid out, the swimming pool was very picturesque and the views were just stunning all arounfd the hotel - you could see lakes, the sea , albania and the lush green mountains of corfu... Everywhere was spotlessly clean and the rooms were very big, plenty of cupboard space. Huge balcony.
Meal times: Breakfast was the bog standard hotel buffet, but everything tasted good and fresh, Lunch was served down by the pool - again buffet style and i loved it. Loads of fresh salad always some kind of meat and fish and rice or potoatoes etc... plenty for the kids too, lots of fresh nectarines, water melon and apples for dessert. There was a snack bar serving food from 10am - 6pm - things like mini pizzas, toasties, souvlaki & icecream. Dinner was also a buffet affair and just so tasty. Theres not a huge selection to choose from but luckily im not fussy and i enjoyed every meal i ate at this hotel.
Evening entertainment was not exactly our taste but hotel entertainment rarely is! We had a deck of cards and each other so we were happy to sit at the bar while it was going on...
One word of warning - MOSQUITOES!! Everywhere...make sure u bring plenty of repellent - one woman had been there 5days and had 100 bites! I was lucky to only get 5... the hotel shop sells citronella candles which every one uses on their tables at the pool bar and lobby bar.
We took the courtesy bus into Kassiopi twice (about 5-10mins away) and had dinner once in a restuarant called Oassis and once in a place called Strofilia - i highly reccomend them noth - we had 3 couses each in both restaurants a bottle of wine and water and the bill was 42euros both times... so cheap and the food was to die for. Kassiopi is def worth a visit. Pretty little town with a small harbour and lively night life,
Be warned there are a lot of the "chav" types staying there who will kick up a fuss when the bar closes etc... but we met some lovely people and a holiday is what you make it. W e would pay more to go back there for sure, and i think it may become a regular week away for us.

... their shoes, but I just grabbed a boat back to P.Roma and returned to the ship. People who went later had a nice time, no water.
The first time we were in Venice, in 1997, the day was perfect, sunny, not hot, not cold, thousands of shops displaying Carnival masks. It was a magical place and I always wanted to come back. I’m glad I got to come back and take vaporetto rides and see the city again, but the magic was gone. Maybe on another ...
We headed out of town to Achilleion Palace, the retreat for the Empress Elizabeth of Austria. We had learned about her life when we were in Vienna last year. She built this house in Corfu in late 19th century style and decorated it with Gods of Ancient Greece, primarily Achilles for which the palace is named. We spent a couple of very interesting hours in both the house and the gardens and admiring the spectacular views. Did I mention that ...

This was built by and Austrian empress in the late 1800s - and it really was very beautiful. During the war it was used as a hospital and later as an orphanage before it was restored for tourists to view. We drove through the main town and by this stage it was so wet we decided to return to the ship and warm up and have ...
... I stop for a coffee at a small cafe high up then join the A2 about 50km further on from where I left it to turn down to Meteora.
I resume the tunnel count anyway, though surely many missed in that 50km stretch. The count is up to 55 when I arrive in Igoumenitsa.
