... for the same reason. We had lunch at Bad Ischel. I had a beef goulash with a dumpling and Jenny had pasta with mushrooms and cream, not the Italian way. We bought some trinkets and made our way to the beautiful village of Saint Wolfgang, walked around in the drizzle and had some coffee and Strudel in the White horse cafe which overlooks the Wolfgangsee, just beautiful. As it is Tuesday and most restaurants are closed so went to the supermarket for some cold cuts and ...

Thursday 16th October Sad to say goodbye to Halstätt and our guesthouse but onward. Walked around the end of the lake in the rain, but luckily it was light and only lasted about half an hour. ... 35 minutes with one stop on the way. Views from the top were 360o and superb on such a clear day. Could see everywhere we had walked and where we are going pretty much. Ride back down was quite jolting as the cogs were engaged. Back at the base we then explored the town of St Wolfgang. This town is just beautiful with magnificent Austrian architecture. Walked the streets, did some shopping, had lunch, visited the pilgrimage church with its famous altar by ...

... at 485m and continued up along the old road that leads over a pass to a small lake in a lovely setting with some high hills around it. On to St Gilgen set on Lake Wolfgangsee, where we waited for the bus on Friday. Had afternoon tea, then walked along the lakeside to our accommodation. A long 21km of walking, but very satisfying and quite straightforward after the initial climb. An easier day tomorrow visiting some local tourist ...
