The Best Nyonya Restaurant in Melaka

Seri Nyonya Peranakan Restaurant Melaka

The Seri Nyonya Restaurant has actually not been given it's share of credit when people talk about nyonya restaurants in Melaka, despite having won the title of "Best Award Winning Restaurant" from the Tourism Office. This might be due to the fact that the other restaurants have existed way before Seri Nyonya and has been established as part of the Melaka scenery. Another fact is that it is not a restaurant that stands on it's own but is situated...

Melaka 1

Cheery wave goodbye, in the rain, from Bob & Vita,as we get into a taxi headed for the city in order to catch a coach to Melaka. The five hour journey passes without event, other than plantation after plantation after plantation, and good conversations with two gay civil servants, one French, one English Initial observations on the differences between the two countires are that we are now very clearly in a Muslim state, not in any way in a threatening sense, but though dress, and vehicle ...

Melaka day 2

A full day exploring Melaka by foot. Dodging once more, the ubiquitous tri-shaw wallahs, we set off past the Porta de Santiago and remains of the great Portuguese Fort of A Formosa, together with the Proclamation of Independence Memorial, which is actually a building. Onwards then towards the town square and our planned walking trail.
This would not be a concern as the suggested Jerak Warisan Heritage Trail could be obtained from the Tourist Information Off...

Making our way through Malaysia

Wow! Words can't describe the eperiences we have had since arriving to our new destination; Melaka, Malaysia. It's still as hot as singapore, if not, HOTTER :D. But I think we're adjusting well :) We spend many hours in the local shopping centers with air-conditioning. Let's start from where I left off... From Singapore we packed up our backpacks and caught a local transit bus to a central "bus station". Considering how heavy our bags were, and factor in the incredible humidity, we were defen...

Malaka

We took the bus from Singapore to Malaka (both tickets cost less than ONE$ingaport $ling at the Raffles Hotel). The ride took longer than expected (over 5 hours with border crossings, stops for lunch, etc.). But we arrived, checked in at the Hotel Equatorial, and had time to walk over to the central historical area, see the Istana, wander over to the Staad Haus (the rest of the stuff was closed by then) and climb up St. Paul's hill to see the runis of the church there and the statue of St. Fr...

Malay Wedding and Medical system

On Friday awaited for A(my malay medic friend from the Isle of Wight) to arrive, and then be able to know the plans for her sister's wedding. Relaxed, met more people passing through the hostel, bartered and played with my camera. Finally, found out that she had actually missed the actual marriage vows of her sister's wedding! (and so had I - but obviously much less significant.) The events for friday evening involved reading of the quran by the women. So that night, met more people in the ho...

Walking on Sunshine

... Museum (this town has a museum for *everything*. It's like the Malay Smithsonian), and learned some stuff. Featured in a display was a restored building in which Kent and Travis stayed during their visit to Penang a couple years ago! After a false start at trying to buy tickets for the "Light and Sound show," a false start at trying to see the new Indiana Jones movie, and one round of DDR at an arcade, we headed back to the food court for another go-round ...

The home of melodramatic acrobats!

... attractions as it is a family time and we ended up experiencing most of the things you would associate with the celebrations on the days post the 7th!! Eventually it was time for the performances, we decided to watch dancing and acrobats! The dancing was good, especially their comedy version of swan lake (starring one large man as swan and another as a rather unhappy prince)!! Then came the acrobats! Well all i have to ...

... interested but we did get a "Welcome to Malaysia" from the border guard which was nice. We were picked up at the bus station and we had a wild ride to the hostel. The road is a mad and dangerous place over here. Rules are thin on the ground and the lack of footpaths anywhere in Melaka made walking down the street and especially crossing it such fun! We had a siesta under the fan (without that we would be lost; or at least melted ...

Melaka

Hi all, it's Julia here. Today we were on the move again, this time to Melaka. It was only a 2 hour journey and our coach was actually quite comfortable for once!! The Kancil guesthouse where we were staying was very strange with no noise, no shoes and only 2 toilets and showers between about 20 of us but yet somehow it still had a friendly feel to it. On arriving, we all headed out for a much needed Pizza Hut lunch which has never tasted so good!! After ...
