Hallo zusammen,

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/a s_australia_dust_storm
Ohrid, Macedonia schwate... the cobblestone roads to the fortress are great. The pace is slow and relaxing. There is a great path that winds in and out of the beaches on its way to a great old church. The old man giving us a tour is delighted that we are so interested and offers us Raiki (a local brandy).

After some rain, a beautiful rainbow appears.
Ohrid, Ohrid, Macedonia will.traveller... on this trip are actually reasonable although we are retracing much of the way to Berat. Some interesting mini-towns along the way that might be fun to stop and explore with a car or more time.

Again, we stop at the first town over the border. From there we take a E5 taxi to Ohrid, the next town over. The Sunny Lakes Hostel is fairly new. It has a fantastic view of the lake and mountains from the top floor, a cozy chill area with hammocks ...
Ohrid, Ohrid, Macedonia will.travellerI was well aware that, in my writings of the country, Montenegro didn't come off sounding too good.

I only spent twenty-eight hours there.

As I was walking around a quiet town square, between a fountain surrounded by loungers, and the tall towers of a rectangular church, minutes away from my exit to Albania, some boys called me to join them in a cafe. They, in their early twenties, played cards (Rummy) there nearly every day. Some were fat-bellied; all ...
Lin, Lake Ohr, Korçë, Albania modernoddyseus... it. Retiring to the living room, I watched Strawberry Shortcake on the tv. The show was in Macedonian though, but I didn't mind, I loved Strawberry Shortcake. Back in our hotel, we looked over what we had bought and I noticed that there was something not to my satisfaction. Marija suggested to go and return it now, instead of in the morning. So, we got back in the car and headed to the shop in Struga. It started to rain a little, so we were trying to ...
Struga, Macedonia brandilinasueThanks to the Albanian and Dutch national holidays falling together in one week, Stefan's office was closed most of the last week of April, and we were able to go on an adventure trip to explore the Balkans and Greece some more. This trip takes us to the East of Albania, into Greece (all the way to Thessaloniki), from there into Macedonia and back to Tirana after 10 days travel. Our trip starts with a 6-7 hrs train trip to Pogradec, which is situated on Lake Ohrid which is a ...
Pogradec, Pogradec, Albania kirstentravelsI slept very well and was up the next morning by 8:30 AM. Got changed and packed, since I thought we'd be leaving by 10. The day before Lelya had invited me to stay one night in Elbasan at her house, where she was from. I agreed and sent an SMS to Katie, my CS host in Berat, to let her know I'd be a day late. Lelya wasn't around so I went for a short walk, this time with my camera. When I get back I met Malvina, her younger sister Ola and another friend, Anula. Anula's ...
Pogradec, Albania mary_zell... the border. A bit later I was dropped off at the Macedonian border. It proved to be the easiest border crossing of my life. I was the 5th in line, 2 others were also crossing on foot. I struck up a conversation with this couple in Macedonian by asking them the time. They turned out to be a really lovely couple, the man (Bairam) Macedonian from Ohrid, and his wife (Sanije) was Albanian from Pogradec the Albanian town just on the other side of the border. After getting my ...
Pogradec, Albania mary_zell... think of a castle, but more a fortified village. A winding maze of white stone streets and houses, it's stunning place to walk around and the view from the narrow watchtower was incredible. I spent a good couple of hours ambling around the castle walls, quite content. Descending only because time was getting on (reliable public transport, if it can be called that, seems to stop sometime around 5 in ALbania. After that, you're leaving it all to chance), I was fortunate to ...
