... tour of Fussen was spot-on and left us wanting to walk and learn more about this little slice of Bavaria. We spent about 45 minutes touring the city and learned about the village's history and culture along the way. Starting at the TI, we first viewed the Hotel Hirsh and it's restored Art Nouveau paintings and decor. We were also able to view one of the village's Medieval Towers and portion of the fortification wall circa early 1500's. We then passed into the cemetery ...

... Marble stairs, a giant chandelier with venetian glass stones and paintings from Wagner operas. Nearly 1.5 million mosaic tiles make up the floor, and it is stunning! Probably the most intricate feature of the tour was King Ludwig's bed, which features a canopy of spires that took a considerable time to build. It gave a really detailed history of the Wittlesbach family. I've been having a really hard time understanding who all the ...

... king and queen. While this castle was impressive, it could not hold a candle to the Neuschwanstein castle, which we toured next. Sitting atop an intimidating mountain which took at least 30 minutes to climb, the newer castle was stunning and was rightfully used as the model for the Disney castle. Although the interior was not completed before the king's questionable death after he was declared mad, what was finished was almost as breathtaking ...

    Day Three in Fussen

A travel blog entry by erzetic on May 19, 2015

Today again starts with breakfast at 7.30am. Steve goes all the way today with two hard boiled eggs for breakfast. Steve is our driver for the day. We are off to visit the summer palace today. The drive tales us into Austria for a short time. We traveled past a magnificent lake and stopped for a daily shot. Unfortunately the weather is not so good today and there is light rain. Eventually make it to the summer palace. This is the smallest of the three ...
