We took a taxi to a pedestrian mall and wandered through the shops. We did see the typical tourist junk venues but places local frequent. Our taxi driver spoke English well, and was concerned we would not be able to get back to the ship. He wrote directions for us to give the next driver.

... it was to sit facing the two young ladies serving us. They got to try out their English while we stumbled with our limited Japanese. After consuming our two curry, rice and meat dishes and beer, we said goodbye and Barbara asked where the nearest bathroom was, whereby one of the young ladies left her lunch counter and escorted us out of the “floor” to the restrooms. ... was fading but we were lucky to be able to see a ceremony of poetry writing. We caught the tail end of it, with the dancing girls in a kimono. After that, we rushed off the try to catch the sunset at the shrine.

To return, we had to do it all in reverse. However, this time, there weren't enough taxis. By the time we reached the station,the other had been waiting for a little while. It was quite late so we went to the basement level for dinner.

... but smaller than the Hiroshima Park, where there was a greater sense of tranquillity and sorrow in the air. In the distance we could see a large blue statue the same colour of the sky which marked the end of the park.
