The train to Yanagawa took about 45 minutes. When ...

She has a beautiful, large home surrounded by a Japanese garden. In her back yard, she had some fantastic carp flags flying. This is a tradition to honour boys in the family since May is boy's month in Japan. We were invited in to have some refreshments at ...

... was closed by the time we arrived. We were greeted with boarded up stalls, wet concrete and the smell of fish. Then walked for 45 mins to a yatai (pop-up restaurant), which we'd read we really should eat in to experience the local cuisine and culture - it transpired we were walking in the wrong direction! You can imagine our euphoria to discover that - and then, to top it all off, it started to rain! ...
