Destination 405

km197'555

Not entirely shure, if I spend my last day in a foreign country, I head towards north. A stopover at Novi Ligure provides me finally the opportunity to send a notification to all family and friends about my remaining itinerary before return back home. The date has been fixed to the 29.
The ride up to Vercelly in the low lands was not that exciting like the sighting of the mountain of Mont Blanc in the far. Since my ...

... used my final day of my eurrail pass for this trip only to find that the trip from Visp station to the Zermatt was not valid despite being told by two train operators that it was. I also couldn't get through to the girl at the station that my eurrail pass allows me discounts for the train but she kept telling me, 'no, no, you can't use anymore days it's full'. Today wasn't the first time I have been stuffed around by the Swiss. It's hard to believe that Einstein was educated here.

A better day

I decided to change hostels because I really didn't like this one. I am not fond of the international hostels. They're like hospitals, although the buffet breakfast was nice and I liked their cat. I was woken up by screaming, unruly kids. Some parents aren't parents. I was happy to change. The sun had also come out and so I snuck on the train from Montreux Tilletet to Veyvey which is only 5 minutes away. The place is much nicer and has free food and a kitchen. I actually got an entire 6 ...

... van hurt her nostrils..eeek!
After deicing and all the rest we headed to Lucern.. or so we thought. Honeydew made her record amount of noise so far. I have never heard a van or car rev so hard in my life. When I went to park (stopped off at the wonderful coffee shop there - she does amazing coffees and learnt the skill in NZ!) I had to keep going as the amount of noise when she wasn't in gear. It was like 5 aeroplanes landing! OH MY GOD.......
Not Interlaken

... there were a few people who though it was pretty funny that I went all the way to Switzerland to hike in the Alps and have never done the same in the Rockies. Looks like I have some hiking to do when I get back home.

The pictures will do a much better job of telling the story than my words.

Also, this is the first place in my entire trip where I did not meet a single Australian. Whats up?

July 17, Almost vacation time

... Then, I got up and packed some things for a few days and then we went to dinner. After dinner, we printed out some directions and went to get the rental car. We got the car and drove to Beau Site to load up all of our stuff. Then we set out toward France. We drove to Aigle, then took highway A1 around the lake until we got to the highway that would take us north to Besancon. The only problem was that when we'd been booking hotels, there was nothing anywhere on the way to ...

... chalet. From our front lawn we can see the Jungfrau in its snowy glory and we are close to the Eiger as well. It is fresh and clear and we will have a great night here before travelling to Paris via Basel by train tomorrow. At the moment I am having trouble uploading photos so the last 3 blogs are without them. Will keep trying so check again in the next few days.

Day trip to Lucerne

... to hit the Coop for groceries and dinner. They close early here so we just missed them and we had to pay for an ok meal at a little snack/restaurant kind of place. Things were a little cloudy and misty back in Lauterbrunnen. I would have to get up bright and early tomorrow to see if we can make the trip up to the top. Hopefully we didn't guess wrong on the weather! Looks like the very top had some views, just not the extensive view we wanted.

I will be back to Lauterbrunnen

... So we walked through Lauterbrunnen. First we bought some bread, butter and pop from a small store. We then walked up through the residential part of town - very steep - until we found a little stone wall we could sit on. A woman was doing laundry nearby and many others were doing gardening. On the other side of the wall was a swift moving stream in a concrete bed. We quickly found out that the 'butter' was actually coffee creamer. Whoops. But luckily I still had plenty of the ...
