      Currently dormant, the circular Santorini island group is an active volcano made up of Santorini, the main island, Thirasia and the Kameni islands at the center. The caldera is about 12 km by 3 km with steep cliffs extending 950+ feet high. The original volcanic eruption that formed the current island configuration took place in 1650 BC. The most recent eruption having taken place not that log ago in 1950.

      Within seconds of the sun going down, the giant mass of people were done. They sun was down, now where to eat? So everyone turned around at the same time and snaked through the village - Hundreds of people in tiny little streets all going back to the bus. It was gross.

      When we got in to Santorini port it is at the bottom of a huge cliff face. The sight of the cliff straight up above you and the small winding road that you have to take to get to the top and towards civilization was quite impressive.
