Pronounced Hania. A city on the sea. Inhabited for 10,000 years (Neolithic era, not to be confused with the mosaic era that took place at my mom and dad's house when they tiled a bathroom with garage sale remnants he'd purchased over the years). A walled city turned into a major hangout for artists, students and foreign tourists. A port town that's got a good European feel. Lots of shops, eateries and cafés. Our suite or 'sweet' apparently turns our to ...

        ... offering. Again, I can’t breath.

We have tea, some pastries, see the old olive press, grain mill and then the old tavern owner lady hops in the car with us to let us into the 800 year old orthodox church. We arrive with another taxi driver and couple. We see the church, Pantelis’s uncle’s grave and then the other taxi driver has to take the old lady tavern owner back and we somehow get this British couple in ...

This morning we woke up in Chania, Crete. We had been to Crete some years ago but were on the other side of the island. It was OK then but it was nothing to rave about. Today's experience was completely different. I doubt there is a more charming and beautiful place on earth. Chania overlooks the Aegean Sea against a stunning mountain backdrop. We had no tour planned for the day. So we just walked around and got lost in the ...

... would get there and back. It certainly was the right decision. We left the hotel at 6 am but that meant that we were also the first group to start down and the temperature wasn't too hot and the sun didn't bake us when we were in the lower part of the Gorge in the middle of the day.  Was it worth the trek down? Absolutely yes! Bob may not be as enthusiastic but he did enjoy it. The gorge is amazing but ...

Day 1 was a driving and site seeing day. We arrived in Chania in mid afternoon which gave us enough time to get our bearings and spend most of the daylight hours around the lighthouse. Bob must have 500 pictures of this area including some fabulous sunset pictures. He has so many that when we found a tasteful tee shirt of Chania with an outline of the lighthouse I made him buy it! The official name of the lighthouse seems to be the ...
