... has aluminum silicate particles in it. (see photos) Their density is sufficient that the entire river looks blue, especialy when the sun shines. The water is very acidic and sometimes smelled like sulphur - not pleasant. The acidity cleaned the rocks comprising the waterfall (catarata). We saw gases bubbling up at places in the river from nearby volcanos. Bubble all you want! Did you know that Costa Rica's landmass is only 3.5 million years old? ...

We all watched in absolute amazement as this guy dressed in just his jocks rode a massive bull, in the dark, for so long that the bull eventually got tired and gave up! He actually had to jump off the bulls back instead of being thrown off! It definitely goes down as one of the most amazing things I have ever seen! The coolest cowboy ever!

... dog. And the cicadas chirping (is that what they do?) rather constantly. Sometimes the sounds crescendo to the point where they stop your conversation because they are so dang loud. No quiet here. Just the auditory reminder that you are not alone and you are really just a visitor in some else's house. A big, lush, noisy house full of some of the most colorful of Gods ...

... Some interesting info on Costa Rica. 1) They gave up their military in 1949. They chose to spend their money on education, health care and the environment rather than their military. It has been a democratic country for quite some time, with no revolutions. 2) 27% of the country are protected parks 3) The economy is led by tourism, then agriculture, then the production of microchips. 4) biggest crops are pineapple, bananas and coffee. Anyways, have to go. We are off to make and eat ...
