Check out at 11 and set off for San Simeon, Rich's choice for tonight's
stop half way down the coast. Lots more waves and coastal things along
the drive, probably the least exciting part of the pacific highway.
Near San Simeon we find somewhere with lots and lots of MASSIVE
elephant seals, mainly sleeping on the shore making Rich-like noises
and a few fighting in ...

Hwy. 1 from Morro to Big Sur...Picture heaven.

... Rock. We were also lucky enough to see the Peregrine Falcons, just as we were getting ready to leave.
We wandered up Main Street to Morro State Park and the Blue Heron bird sanctuary. This is a protected stand of eucalyptus where egrets and herons (both blue and night) nest. As it was not nesting season, we only spied a couple of the blues and one lonely egret. The walk is easy and not too long, which makes a nice chance to get ...

Sanity on the road to Morro Bay

... is at the southern end of the bay, and usually I have stayed at the northern end.
The hotel is three stories tall with the ground floor being covered parking. We had our choice of parking places. There is a small standing balcony with a nice view of the bay and rock. The room is nice size, with a refrigerator and microwave. Across the hall is the breakfast room which we will sample in the morning. Nice for us, they have an ...

... what everyone had stopped for. We got out of the car and couldn't believe what we were seeing (and smelling). The beach was covered in Elephant Seals! We could have watched them for hours, they are so funny. The way they move across the sand and then flop down all of sudden for a rest. They are really noisy as well and seem to always been arguing with each other. It was brilliant watching them in their natural environment (see video).

We arrived in ...

Day 187 Morro Bay

... Morro Bay, to have the pleasure of observing Zebra grazing alongside the highway, descendents of some of the grazing animals, from Hearst's collection of exotic animals in his large privately owned Zoo. Reset at our spot and time for some washing and a relax. Tomorrow head south to Los Angeles. Yes we have completed the circle of the country and closed some gaps in the map. The countdown is closing on us fairly quickly, we have to "sort out the Castle" and pack and ...

What a Disaster! Days 5 & 6!

... today/tomorrow, before we leave for San fran on friday! Luckily,we both agree on a place called Mammoth Mountain, a ski resort high in the Sierra Nevada. It's the other side of Yosemite, so we'll still be able to visit bit's of it. It looks similar to parts of New Hampshire that we love; lot's of mountains, rivers, lakes etc. We've just gotta make the best of a bad deal! So, now we're surfing for a property to rent that we can afford, and has all we need I ...

... plots are marked with spraypainted rocks that tells whether they are open or not. The graves are so interesting and touching. They are decorated in some ways that seem to be connected to traditional communities such as Mexican and Mexican American ones in San Antonio. They are so personal-favorite toys for children, handmade headstones-a real mixture of traditions, it seems to me. It was really a neat place and very nice way to top off our visit with Susie. The town's buildings are built
in the design which is set to remind you of Denmark. We visited one of
the bakeries here and sampled some of their delicious pastries and did
some shopping. We then headed on to Santa Barbara and walked along the
ocean and pier, Santa Barbara is a very pretty location.
