... weather was a bit warmer! We visited the oldest Synagogue in Africa, very interesting!!

Besides that, the island is mainly a holiday resort for Europeans in the summer, so we only spent two days there.

Next stop was Tatatouine, to visit the old fortified Berber villages. Worth the visit, a few of the Star Wars scenes were filmed here.

... as well as the medina area of Houmt Souk, Djerba's main market town. The medina was very quaint with its traditional Moorish buildings looking out over pretty cobbled squares. Winding lanes are fringed with craft and antique stores and traders are willing to haggle over goods such as ceramics, jewellery and spices. Many of the locals wore traditional dress which seemed similar to Mayan costumes from Guatemala!
