Doing the Chan Chan

... They are still restoring the area and are undertaking conservation work at other sites around Chan Chan. You get to see people working on the walls carefully dabbing what looks like water on the stones no doubt to see whether the carved designs survived. Chan Chan's pyramids and palaces were put on UNESCO's list of World Heritage Sites in Danger in 1986 because they are threatened by erosion. Apparently over the past 2 decades the site has deteriorated ...

... renting them the boards tells them to head towards the peer and stay out of the way of the good surfers. This unfortunately does not last long as the current is quite stong, and soon they find themselves right in the middle of the good surfer group. The guys who owned the surf shop watched them for a bit then send in one of their buddies to give the guys some tips. This saw them getting towed by the good surfer outback and being pushed in to the waves. Bless em, again.

... of winter.
Chatting to a surfer, a petrophysist, Malaz / Aussie, ex ShelI, Aberdeen and Lowestoft, I find out why it is so cold and misty here, it is the Humbolt current, the cold current from the Antarctic flows up to within 150km of Mancora. In Mancora you can surf without a wetsuit 150km south you need one.
It is this cold water that affects the climate and produces the heavy cold mist which hangs about until 3 in the afternoon.

... bloody hell, hasn´t JK Rowling made enough money already? Can´t she just get to the climax and let us see a big ****off fight between Ralph Fiennes and Michael Gambon rather than all this romantic ****? I´m not being funny but Ron is clearly batting above his average with Hermione (even if she is a royal pain in the ****).

After that, I decided to leave and continue my gradual trek across Peru (bear in mind I´ve ...

Unexpected extended stay in Trujillo

... was also becoming annoying now, demanding that we pay 30 soles for the sandwiches, thoroughly unacquainted with the practice of letting such payment slide when the business itself is clearly at fault in order to appease customers and encourage further custom. We paid him a token 15 soles; it wasn´t his fault, it was the cooks, an´d he´d been very nice to us during our stay. Cynthia had a rant at his manager on the phone, though he didn´t speak English. However, joy - around 7.50am ...

Pyramid of the moon

When we got back to the hostel, Mr Americano aka Tom, whom Rosa and Vanessa had spoken so highly of that morning, was in the lounge chatting with Vanessa. He wasn't gobsmacking hot – as described by Vanessa earlier in the day. He seemed rather average-looking and not amazingly hot as Vanessa and her mom made out him to be. He saw himself as a real traveller that had been to a few countries, but most likely, from what he had ...

She had mentioned several times that she thought he was beautiful to look at.

It was early evening when we went off to the supermarket. ... dolls.

Later, seeing that Wendy and I were the only guests at the hostel at the time, Vanessa and her mom took us out for the evening. Along with Vanessa’s sister, they took us to a well-known local marinera club. After everyone had paid for their entrance tickets, it was my turn to pay for my entrance fee. I handed my 50 soles note, waiting for change, but the ticket lady immediately handed it back over to me asking if I had another ...
