What we thought would be a vacation...

... with him quite a bit to get him back to the price we thought we were getting. In the end, it worked out and we had a 3-bedroom apartment with a really beautiful view all to ourselves for 480 Kuna altogether (that’s only $16 each a night which is really cheap in Europe). We got settled in just in time for sunset, took some pretty pictures from our lanai, and then went to the market down the street for groceries. We cooked a good dinner ...

Pescara (west coast of Italy)

Six hour train from Venice to Pescara. Nice ride along coast but this is a beach town with not much open in October. In addition, when we questioned the hotel clerk about sightseeing he immediately replied that most of the town was bombed in World War II and not rebuilt. Only stayed one night on the way to Naples and the highlight was a great meal!

sail Croatia - Day #6

... for lunch - and given the fact that my story had spread around the boat over breakfast, but the time it came for lunch to be served, not many people were willing to take on the chicken... (even though the food I ate the night before was in a restaurant and our chef had prepared - during the course of the entire trip) three ...

Abruzzo

... we arrived in time for the evening promenade. What seemed like the entire population walking around the main streets and piazzas, enjoying each other’s company. Boys arm in arm with other boys, girls the same, or on the steps of the church and the town hall. Old men in little knots discussing politics with an alarming amount of arm waving. Old ladies in black sitting on park benches chatting/gossiping? And ...

Relaxing

... the rocks but they don't look very stable. There are lots of little places to swim. We get some beer, hang out then Chris challenges me to a game of table tennis. I hand him is first ever, best of 7 defeat. I will say that the ball barely bounced.

We hit a nightclub (the only one that seems to have anything going on). It gets a good crowd, dancing …

Living the Yachting Life

... drive but we are only a 10 minute walk.

This is a yachting town. There are several huge yachts (200 ft) in the harbor. The town is pretty small but pretty with lots of cafes & bars surrounding the water. We are clearly past their peak season but there are still enough folks around to make it interesting. We hang out at a bar playing Buddha Bar type music watching the yachts and people. Chris goes for alcoholic milkshakes which apparently affect him quite a bit.

Hot, hot Hvar!

Hvar -- September 4

We got up early (as usual) and went to buy our ferry tickets to Hvar (42 kuna each). We then paid Ivo for our wonderful room in Split before heading to the open air produce market to stock up on provisions. What an amazing market Split has! Beautiful fruits and vegetables (all organic!). Efren was thrilled to find roasted chicken and he devoured 2 legs for breakfast! Craig was happy ...

... a t-shirt around his head to keep the sun off - fantastic! Would you beleive they also have a shell museum there. I've always loved looking at and collecting shells - I developed this interest from collecting sea shells with my aunty Jan on the beach at Sorrento (Australian one) and loved to copy her collages of seashells which are just amazing! Anyway, thanks Jan - and now I can tell you I've seen a place where they love shells just as much as we ...

Overnight Ferry to Greece!

... to central Athens were closed and we were dropped off way out of town in the "shittiest" place in Athens, as Post described it. We made our way to Piraeus, about 30 minutes south of Athens, where all the cruise ships and ferries to the islands depart from and picked up our ferry tickets to Mykonos, which departed at 735am the next morning. We found ourselves some ****** accommodation for the night and would see Post bright and early the next morning to leave for Mykonos.
