Arrival in Geneva

We arrived in Geneva after traveling 9 hours via Regina to Calgary (plus 45 minutes on tarmac waiting for flight crew to arrive from Vancouver) to Frankfurt, Germany and 1 hour from Frankfurt to Geneva (Lufthansa Air - code shared flight with Air Canada (AC) - very good English speaking German flight attendants). AC wasn't too bad, other than the …

Lovely Layover

The least expensive ticket we could book from Amsterdam to Paris happened to have a 10 hour layover in Geneva, Switzerland. Lucky for us this gave us a chance to bop around this BEAUTIFUL city.

We got off the plane and found that the train was free to get from the airport into central Geneva (score!). We wandered directly down from the train station to Lake Geneva where we saw a bridge covered with Swiss flags and Geneva's flags, docks ...

We walked the grounds and then walked for about a half hour along the lake looking at the alps and the beautiful fall leaves... Dad I took some pictures for you! We then headed back to Geneva to see the 'must see's if you will a giant 3 legged chair titled Broken Chair... Made of 5.5 tons of wood it is ...

Today we boarded our first train leaving toulouse at 07h18 or so. It was a long day of getting on and getting off. Once we arrived and sorted out our next few train tickets we decided to keep our packs and stop for Coffee the menu looked lacking and I hadn't found a machine to take out franks so I opted for a coffee and ate some almonds. Historical Traveler Reviews Hotel Edelweiss - Manotel Geneva

The only thing missing is Heidi!

    from anonymous

Nice hotel, very friendly staff, & very clean. A little too much of the Edelweiss theme - alpine flowers painted everywhere, soft St.Bernard dogs on all round reception and restaurant.

Rooms at back of hotel nice & quiet - but a word advice - Make sure you don't get allocated a room number ending in '6' - i.e 426 - these are right beside the lift shaft and are small rooms.

The hotel didn't offer a choice of smoking or non-smoking room - if you want non-smoking, you need to ask.

Breakfast is fine, but nothing to write home about. Boiled eggs, a few cereals, and a bit of fresh fruit salad - straight out of the tin!

Hotel is very convenient to rail station and lake & is competitively priced for Geneva.

One of advantages of Trip Advisor is finding jewels like this. 3 minutes from the lake. Lots of character. Lovely staff. Lovely clean, homely room and very good value by Geneva standards. 5 stars, and I am fussy!

    You can't go wrong here

This is an excellent hotel, full of swiss atmosphere, clean, nice rooms, very courteous staff and great value for money considering it is in an excellent position. It is 5 minutes walk to the railway station and 5 minutes to the lake. You can even walk over the bridge into the Old Town in around 15 minutes. The Swiss Chalet style is charming and there is an aromatic smell everywhere. The Swiss restaurant is wonderful. Highly recommended.

    Swiss lovely Chalet

We have been in this Hotel for our Anniversary and we can't find a better place to stay than this Hotel.

I asked flowers for the 14 Feb. 2005 for a present to my wife and I had it, asked room service different time and I had it (no extra charge for this)...really this is one of the best Hotel where I stay during all my trip, not big Hotel and not too small, all the staff was very very very friendly and helpfull.

The restaurant is a special place to spend a night to listen the Swiss Music and to see the Swisss Show with all the different Swiss instrument, I suggest this Hotel to anyone becasue if when you travel you like to feel at your home this is the place for you.

I forgot one thing...all the atmosphere in the Hotel is like a Swiss Chalet, all the staff and the maid have the tipical swiss dress.

We came back in this Hotel again in the next future!!!!!

    Great Hotel near the Lake

Lovely hotel. Staff were very friendly and helpful. We went the week before Christmas 2004 and the restaurant was very busy, but the service and food were excellent. The live entertainment added to the restaurant atmosphere. Less than 5 minutes from the lakeside and about 20 minutes into the town. Would recommend to others and would stay there again.

    Great place

We stayed at Manotel Edelweiss in September 2004. The hotel is relatively small and narrow and thus the rooms and hallways are somewhat confined. However, we greatly enjoyed our time there - clean with modern bathrooms, nice decor, quiet, and has helpful staff and a decent but not spectacular complimentary breakfast. The location is convenient to central geneva and is perhaps 400 meters from the RR station. It is about two blocks back from the lakefront behind the larger upscale hotels. A short hike of 15 min. puts you in the in the center of the main shopping district. One tip...ask directions to the Cafe Arts which is 3 blocks away, very informal, and serves remarkably good food for the price, particularly if you like salads.

    Great Hotel

Having read a previous review, we booked the Manotel Edelweiss and were not disappointed. The location was very convenient for the main railway station and just a few minutes from the Lake. Our room was spacious and well appointed with a good bathroom. Both were spotless with all linen being changed every day. Breakfast was good and the restaurant served good food with folk entertainment in the evenings(imagine Elvis with yodelling!!). Once was ok! Staff were friendly and helpful. We can thoroughly recommend the Edelweiss.

    Great Hotel

    from conan

This is a great hotel, can't believe it only has 3 stars. Good sized, well-equipped rooms and bathrooms. Cleaned to a high standard, it has everything you need for a business or leisure stay. Swiss chalet decor is a little strange in a modern building but very well done and at least it isn't a bland, anonymous chain. Friendly service, good restaurant - although the 'folklore' evenings might mean once is enough! 10 minutes walk from the station, 5 minutes from the lake. We'd go back without hesitation.

    A Swiss Chalet

This is a great hotel, definately one of the best I have stayed in (even better than some 5 star). The locaion is brilliant, the staff are very friendly and the rooms are a good size, very clean, with decent bathrooms. If you are on the right side, you can even see the mountains from your window. Overall, an excellent hotel, I owuld definately recommend it.

    Great Hotel

Stayed in the Hotel Edelweiss for two nights before and after a skiing vacation and found it to be modern and clean but also very Swiss and quaint with lots of wood and wonderful Swizz charm. The food was excellent and the location is central and very convenient. The staff were very helpful and friendly and even made tea for us at silly o'clock in the morning prior to our return flight. No hesitation at all in recommending this hotel to anyone. Look out for special pice offers, we got a great deal on this hotel though British Airways including flights.
