Solo breakfast again and brought a plate up for Jerry. Becoming a bit of a joke now that I am the room service maid!
Didn't do so well at breakfast today despite some serious planning. The lovely looking brown bread I chose and sliced smelt and tasted as though it was made with vinegar. Some sort of sourdough? And then I cut a slice of lovely looking cake filled with pistachios, apricots and apple - turned out to be cake with vegetables and ham in! Bit of a shock, and I might have ...

Breakfast alone today as Jerry not feeling great. I took reading material and had a lovely time tucking into the buffet. No Igor, just a smiley girl who kept refilling my tea and orange juice and said I should take a plate of breakfast up to my husband. Which I did, and it made a modest lunch for two!

Fab things to note about this hotel: all the staff have been to charm school and they have lots of free L'Occitaine toiletries. A week ago I wouldn't have noticed, but, although the Bulgarian people are really nice, they don't smile much, and so far, 'free toiletries' as described on the Internet has meant a teeny bottle of shampoo and a toilet roll.

On our walk back to the hostel we stopped at a sweetcorn stall for a cup each of sweetcorn mixed with butter, salt and grated parmesan cheese - delicious!

We finished the day with some dinner at the place we'd been recommended last night and then some internet time back at the hostel.

... The most recent (and most scientifically backed) one is that they are the result of a 'bubbling reef', methane gas seeps in ancient seas about 50 million years ago in the Lower Eocene period.

There were only about two other couples there, so we mostly had the site to ourselves. We spent ages wandering around, taking in the stone columns, white sand, hillocks, sunshine, birdsong, blossoming trees and ...
