... The scenery was definently worth it, with the Gerlos pass having a lovely Waterfall..the waterfall started a few km's up and was pretty impressive. By the time we had done the second pass it was getting quite late...but not dark yet.
The drive to Innsbruck was via motorways, but scenic enough as we got to our hotel around 7pm..just after dark. We went past the Swarovski Factory on the way into Innsbruck ...
After leaving Cortina in the morning, we drove into Austria and made a stop for a couple of hours in Imst to ride the alpine coaster there. Unlike the summer slide near the Salzberg Lakes that we rode, this one was on rails and was the longest in Europe at 3.5km or 2.1m. All of us rode it once ...
Imst, Austrian Alps, Austria brian796... the highest drivable pass in the Alps. On the way, we happened across a familiar sight in Italy, which was the walled-in cemeteries. These are completely enclosed small areas with high walls all around, probably to keep people from getting out as everyone is just dying to get in.
The first 75km or so was through a low valley in the mountains and once we reached the end of the valley at a ...
... indulging in some sweet pastries and orange juice, and also stocking up with supplies for a couple of days on the road. After packing the car we headed to Innsbruck. Innsbruck is a much larger university city where at least half the population ride push bikes. After parking at a parking station we got our bearings and walked along the river to the Medieval Old Town Centre. We climbed the Stadtturm (City Tower), which dates from 1450, to enjoy the magnificent view of ...

Seefeld, Austrian Alps, Austria souter... bottom of the ski slopes where a series of lifts takes you onto various peaks. We grabbed a quick lunch at the base of the ski hill before renting a pair of skis for Emily and a snowboard for Marko. Emily had not skied in the last decade, so we were a little slow at the start. However, it did not take a while before she was carving the slopes. The ski resort was a series of bowls with marked, groomed trails weaving through the middle while ...
Merano, Trentino-Alto Adige, Italy emily_and_marko... it slightly more easy than the day before, a bit tired and hung over... Today then was my third and last day... and it did not start off very well: as it turns out I seem to have been a little too enthusiastic about this sport and hurt my left ankle in my sisters' boots. It was so painful that having reached the lift after a 200m walk, I was close to tears and ready to give up. But gladly my Mum told ...
Samnaun, Swiss Alps, Switzerland kattiline... good, like the kabap for example. It's like a gyro in sandwich form. Though I didn't know what I was ordering at first, it still was really good. Being in the French speaking part of Switzerland for the most part, I was set since I know a good amount of French, but now that we were in German speaking territory, I was not as lucky. Most of the signs were in 4 languages though: French, English, Italian, and German. Liechtenstein also accepts Swiss Francs, US Dollars, and Euros, so no one ...
Seefeld, Austrian Alps, Austria disciple26We took some time off in the morning to recover and wait for dad's bike to be propped-up with even broader tires and stronger brakes by the local bicycle shop. At 10'clock, we started off south towards Biberwier before taking Road179 to the Fernpass. Of course we knew we were having a day with a lot of cars on the road, but travelling with luggage, we were not taking chances, not ...
Ried im Oberinntal, Austrian Alps, Austria kremser... toured around the streets. And then once all the floats had dispersed the night street party started, which was a hoot. There was such old-school English songs being played by DJs set up in the street, with street bars and small food stalls everywhere. It was a great night, ending up with a group of us at the Irish pub of all places!! But there are not too many times in my life I will be able to dance with the main character out of the horror Movie Saw 2!!
