... If I ran the circus, there would always be night shows and never morning shows. At night, the crowds are bigger and more animated and all of our bodies are much more awake, alive and ready to fly. After years of flying at TSNY in the middle of the night, it just feels right to me, and not so much like work.

As for my new trick (the Forward Over), the month of July has been an adventure every show. Before coming to Japan, I had caught the ...

We have just arrived in a tiny village high in the mountains. We are in a gorgeous setting, staying at a Minshuku run by a Japanese couple who speak no English. Fortunately we are sharing the house with an Australian family and Jane, the wife, speaks Japanese. We shared a half hour taxi ride with Jane, her husband Bill, and their 17 year old son Patrick. Super friendly, nice, well traveled folks ( 10 trips to Japan alone). A misty hard rain has greeted us here and we are expecting ...

... After that experience I can tell you first hand, it’s true. Absolutely amazing!

Back to my journey. Two buses, an overnight stay and four trains later I arrived in Toyama. The train ride across Honshu was reminiscent of a Travel Channel special. The scenery was varied and beautiful, and the train window acted as my personal television screen. I arrived in Toyama with enough time to unpack my room, take a shower and attend ...

... when it means having to wait another hour for the next bus or train. We didn't master this last point until we almost missed our ship's tour to the Takayama Alpine Route (out of today's port, Toyama), where we drove up to the mountains that are aka the Japanese Alps. Arriving at our meeting point with just moments to spare, we've learned to set our alarm 15 minutes earlier than usual. The stares from our ...

    Tateyama-Kurobe Alpine Route

... by a quieter cable car down to the impressive sight of Kurobe Dam. This was my favourite part of the trip. The snow corridor was cool but expected. This wasn't. The lake feeding into the dam was mostly frozen solid. The structure itself was an impressive mass of concrete with odd angels and a huge drop to the ice below. It looked something like helms deep from Lord of the Rings. After walking across the damn it ...
