    ... we were early and the rooms weren't ready, we opted to take the small Kurobe Gorge Railway train up to the gorge. Five didn't go.     Aging population has its effect in rural areas, or non-metropolitan places. The slow train that takes us into downtown was mostly students in it. Glad that the weather is much better, and we can see the Shingansen beside the railway. By now one can take Shingansen to Kaneda.

    ... language to say hello in...and it's raining.

    • Stakes used for tying down various tarps which leap out and grab your pants legs, bite your ankles or shins and are especially perfect for wrapping toes around.

    • Random and sometimes large holes in the ground...where the stake used to be, but is no longer. Great for falling in, especially when filled with water.
    • Port-o-potties. Enough said.
