Basking in the glow of being a freshly certified intro to cave diver, but exhausted by the course, my dive buddies and I took a day off to chill out. I joined L and K at their hotel and lay by the beach like every other tourist in playa del Carmen. It was all very good except the cheesecake which ...

... the crew and got back on the boat safely. The second day we started in the sea as the weather was due to get very rough in the afternoon an on our first dive we were tasked with using the compass underwater. The concept was easy: the instructor was to place a flag in the sand and we would find it using the compass. But in practice it was anything but. Trying to prepare the compass bearing under water with a strong current and no gravity to keep me still or facing ...

... swell and number of inexperienced snorkelers thrashing around in the water, the visibility was really poor. She did however stumble across one big turtle without much warning.

David went diving from a little boat just 5 minutes off the beach but due to the swell however it was a slow and bumpy 10 minutes before we rolled into the water. It was not long into the dive that we were greeted by the ...
