Now you see it.. now you don't

We were planning to go to Liechtenstein but thought we may as well as it was sort of on our way. It's the worlds 6 smallest country so it would have been rude not to go..haha.

We didn't drive to the main town but to another.. where really there wasn't anything. I did get a photo with the tourist sign though. Had to somehow prove I'd been there!
Across the border

Our third stop of the day was our first in Austria. Now I was entering undiscovered lands! Feldkirch is right on the Switzerland border. The old town centre is surrounded by towers, and a castle sits on a hill above.

We explored Feldkirch and a few of its towers. The old town is quite charming with its colorful buildings, trickling fountains, and small shops. When we tried to ...

A stop over to catch the Glacier Express

... platform 11 the night before, but we saw on the board it was now platform 10. Well, after we check about 4 more boards and asked 2 people, we finally believed the location had really been changed. We drug our 50 pounds of stuff packed into 30 pound suitcases up the through the tunnel and up the ramp to platform 10. We were really early and the train that needed to pull out so ours could come in was having difficulty. They kept checking the wheels with really high tech tools - a ...

Cute villages with quaint houses, cows grazing in green pastures, and a castle sitting on a high hill surrounded by vineyards.

Vaduz is a very nice city. The royal residence, a castle of course, sits on a high cliff directly above the city centre. The main street is a pedestrian street with shops and restaurants, museums, the tourist office, the ...

... early, and caught the morning train for Bern. I am here now, and will be staying with Heinz and Sylvia since Sandra is not feeling well. Tonight, Heinz, Sylvia and I went out for supper at an great italian restaurant near their home. I got this awesome dish, "vitello tonato", which was a tuna dish, and soo good! Looking forward to staying with my family for the next couple of days, and of course visiting Bern. See you all next week :) Ciao Tanya

Our Free Day at Chur.

... the raging torrent (we now knew why it was raging!) we alighted and explored some more of the delights of the Old Town area with the numerous National and Cantonal Flags waving at us from every corner! We found the city's cathedral, busily being restored inside. Non the less a delightful worshipping place. Then we found the most wonderful graveyard I think I have ever come across. Gravestones crammed in very close to each other but ...

Rolling into Switzerland

... Words cannot describe that room. The wow factor has just blown off the planet. Never have I seen anything like this place. It was full very old books going back a 1000 years all locked away in the wooden bookcases from ceiling to floor. Some were open and on display in glass cases showing some of the fine old German text. Leaving St Gallen we headed east again towards Austria and the town of Feldkirch which we approached from Allstadt, way up on top of a mountain pass with ...

The Glacier Express

... That is what scenic railway travelling is all about. The journey to Interlaken finished with a ride back on the Swiss Federal Railways (yay Eurail Pass validity). At times, there were views out the IR and IC train windows that seemed just as scenic as the Glacier Express. However, the Glacier Express is unique in itself, and I hope one day I can come back and do the full trip (along with a meal in the dining car)! :-)

... Hotel Europe, we stopped for some ice cream. I see why Europeans like their ice cream so much. It is really rich, smooth and delicious.

Once we were back in the room, we started to get ready for dinner. We were heading up the Jakobshorn Mountain for dinner, via cable car (two of them, actually) to the top. I can’t wait to see the view from the top at night. The view from the cable car was incredible...you could see the entire valley. However, the restaurant was ...
