Plan was to stay in Avignon but when we arrived we decided it was too big for us and after driving around the outide of the ramparts of the old city walls - very cool and the main thing we wanted to see - we made our way onwards to Fontaine de Vaucluse which is 20kms past Avignon. We arrived just before dark and found an Aire de Service at the edge of town where settled in for 2 days. The town ...

Also, who’s to say what is ‘original’ and what is not after so long a time. For a building as old as this, I believe a few renovations have taken place over the years!

Just down the street was the Theater Antique, or Classical Theater. A century ...

Avignon, Provence, France qyzhang... at night! I like how on our trip we have a nice balance between cities and towns. I also like shopping, but seeing as Paris is our next stop, why waste my time here?? I made my way back to Arles and met up with Hartley and we ended up strolling aimlessly through the streets of Arles. I love the buildings here with there colorful doors and window shutters. The lanes are so narrow as well. I saw a grandmother with her kids walking with a loaf of french ...
Arles, Provence, France kateb75... wonderful! And then the duck with a sweet sauce. Delicious! It was the best home coming possible. The next morning when I walked the streets of Arles, I bought a croque monsieur. Ohhhh it was like LOVE!!! I struggled not to return and buy another. It was rich, and cheesy with just the right amount of ham. Oh, heaven!!! To top things off, I snuck into a coffee specialty store and had an espresso. My life is complete!
Arles, France oracle26... band was performing. Hanging out for a while we enjoyed the livelihood of this great city, young and old, dancing, singing, and clapping along. The next day we slept in and then finished our last full day in Arles by checking off the remaining sights on our Arles pass. It was an easy-going day of walking around the city and relaxing in the park. Final thought on Arles would be: a great place to spend the summer, it's a true retreat from the bustle of summer tourism.
Arles, France ksunderhill... require is the knowledge of dates. In the US there's a lot of "oh, don't worry about the dates, just the concepts" but here, dates matter, and they matter a lot. She was so mad at the class today. One of the questions asked when photography was first used for journalism. I put during the mid 1800's with the wars in France and the US. I didn't put the names of the wars and neither did the rest of the class so she thought ...
Arles, France lparrin... to the pub again and there was a band there too. They sang "Mustang Sally" and some Prince songs. It was funny because we could hear the French people around us singing the wrong words but, well, I do the same thing with their music. I headed home at about 12:30 and was expecting to encounter the cat again, but I think it learned that I come home about this time and if it wants to sleep, it needs to go elsewhere.
