Paris, the tacky tour bus

... Left Bank for a tour of the Latin Quarter and Montparnasse. Here the Seine flows west cutting the city in two. The Left Bank has long been considered a hangout for artists, writers, musicians and philosophers including Picasso, Matisse, Sartre, Hemingway and many others. Rive Gauche has come to mean more than simply a geographical region of the city and can now refer to a particular style of life, fashion, or even `Look' – in 1966 ...

Paris 2

... circle below where 12 main axis of Paris collide is a modern marvel! All of these speeding cars converge on one traffic circle and there are no traffic lights, stop signs, or traffic lanes. It is nuts! We saw about 3 almost car accidents standing on the sidewalk trying to take pictures and make it out to the arc. Did I mention that there are no crosswalks at this particular juncture either? It the worlds biggest game of frogger. After surviving the ...

Leaving London

... show. While there were parts of the show I quite enjoyed, overall I wasn't blown away. I much prefer the original film version, to be honest, though I did tear up during 'The Letter.' Most of Saturday, Nick and Jon showed me around some random London sights. Well, mostly it was Jon who did the talking about the different things we saw because some of it, like Harrod's (which was way too busy to enjoy), he was seeing for the first time, too. Another first that day ...

Better Late Than Junk-Punched

... and Greek quarters, as well as on the cheap Bosphorus and Golden Horn ferries. Some of you probably just spit beer out of your nose at "Golden Horn ferries" but hey, that's really what they are. And grow up. Enjoyed the ridiculous splendour of Topkapi Palace with every 8 year old kid in Istanbul except for the one offering to shine my sandals. Which reminds me, got completely played by a shoe shine guy while waiting for a ferry in Balat. He "accidentally" dropped his ...

THE ARCHE DE TRIUMPHE AND NATURAL SELECTION

... US was not so patient. Suffering from what can only be severe ADD or momentary insanity, after a quick look around he darted into the traffic and proving his right to occupy space on the planet, he made it across! I am pretty sure that this is actually illegal, and I'm also pretty sure there are enough signs around that this would NOT be an entirely normal thing to do. Thus proving, France is trying to thin the herd! BEWARE!

... delighted to come upon this statue honoring Joan of Arc. Pretty cool view on the way to buy groceries, no? We did travel across the ocean well this time. I think that the older we get, the easier it is for us to adjust to the time zone changes.....or maybe it is just because we don't sleep as much as we did when we were young.....or perhaps we tire more easily and hit ...

The whirlwind that was allegedly Paris

... a block - there it was. We stood and looked at the queues for a while which helped us decide on a better plan of action instead of climbing it - lazing and snoozing on the grass looking up at the Eiffel whilst sipping on red wine. Ahhhhh. What a relaxing end to the weekend. Now nice and relaxed we set off to CDG for our flight back to London, checked in with plenty of time to spare we grabbed some food, only to come back for security to tell us that we ...

Trip to Paris

... the top ended when Leah was convinced she had frostbite. Other trips saw us visit the Louvre, Notre Dame, and all the palaces and gardens. Notre Dame was definently a favourite. The atmosphere inside the place was just amazing. Plenty of photos were taken, and then we wandered into a small town nearby called Cluney. It was a shame we didn't find Cluney earlier than our last day, as it was a great little town. It had very narrow streets, mainly for ...
