... series of hairpins we emerge on a high plateau which is covered in fields of cultivated lavender. I had no idea that the world needs quite so much lavender but it is obviously big business round here.

Then we hit the mountains and gorges again. We. Are getting close to the famous Canyon de Verdon (Verdon Gorge), a major tourist attraction in France.

Campsites abound and we check in at the delightful Camping ...

... car park. Cordon bleu it was not. But the sun had come out and we were down to T shirts. Not Val obviously. So then, refuelled, we set off for Millau and the famous viaduct. On the way, the sun went in again and we had to stop to refit fleeces - or in Val's case, a scarf. ... also lovely, friendly and spoke excellent English. Had a very enjoyable and delicious lunch and then a short wander around town. As Tristan was in the middle of studying for his final exams and still hobbling along on crutches from his foot injury, we did not want to keep him away for too long. We said our goodbyes, gave the boys a turn on the town merry go round and then drove home.
