Tommy was due in Calais for 3.00am, so there was little point in him and Alastair going to bed, so after showering, another great Qwirkle battle took place.

A sociable day
... so a haven for ours. Matty ended up painting the wrought-iron gates with Felicity. An hour and a half later, we returned for a very late lunch!
After lunch, it was a bit late to go out anywhere far away and the boys wanted to go out with Pierre-Marie, so Alastair and I nipped down to Leclerc for bread and things.

Route de la paille
... to visite the beach at Ste Cecile -just up the coast from Etaples. We found the promised Glaces Italiennes there and also bought another bodyboard and a strong spade from a seaside shop. The tide was up and the remaining beach was fairly full. As there was a cool breeze, only James, Billy and Matty were brave enough to go in the water, because, although the water was warm in itself, there would have been no drying out and warming up on the beach.

Cycle ride up the valley
... we could find for lunch, then, as the sun was breaking through, drove down to Stella for a swim. It was a bit cooler at the sea today -about 20 degrees C -but very pleasant in the water and still warm enough when we had finished. Our warm-up stroll up the beach turned into a game of volley ball (not quite Olympic standards!) Then the boys went to play on the edge of the dunes.
