    Traveling from Chamonix to Lake Annecy we went through some breathtaking views through the Alps. The city is quite gorgeous, a favorite Lakeside destination for French families in summer. After a walk through 'Little Venice' taking the sights of a town voted the most beautiful in France, i had a lovely lunch of the local (from Nice) Niçoise salad in a central location before taking the one hour boat trip on the lake.     ... got better as we left behind the cloud cover on the top of the mountain, and the sun brought welcome relief from the freezing cold.

    Once past the twisty bits, there is a long straight slightly undulating stretch that is perfect for tandems, and we were able to settle into a comfortable 35 kph and enjoy the scenery.

    We stopped for a mint tea in Bessans, and then carried on the D902 then D1006 along the valley towards Termignon. ...

    ... to be very few. We chatted over a coffee in Bourg St. Maurice, we then picked up the route again towards Val D'Isere, agreeing that we would be sure to see each other somewhere else along the way, given our similar schedules.

    The first bit of the leg to Val D'Isere is actually flat/downhill, which is disheartening when you know you have so much climbing to do. The last thing you want to do is lose height.

    Leaving our lovely apartment in Lyon, we said farewells to our excellent host Carole and sped off down the A47 to Chambery. We had had a terrific time in exploring the tip of the iceberg of Lyon, walking many kilometres of enchanting streets, wandering in and out of many shops, galleries museums and frequenting many of the bars, cafes and restaurants.
