... interesting sites. One of them is Bratislava Castle, perched up on a hill overlooking the city. From up there you get great views and that is where you see how most Bratislavans live. On one side of the river is the Old Town part, the touristy part. But on the other side of the river is where most of the locals live and most of what you see is drab concrete apartment blocks. On my third day in Slovakia (Aug. 28) I went out on a day trip from Bratislava. Good to see more than ...

We then spent the rest of the daz exploring the old town and the castle, relaxing in the grounds, then shopping in an air conditioned mall and then went out for a lovely meal in the evening. after another luxurious day, we couldnt quite believe we had to leave to go back to hostels the next day. we had an amazing time, and are so grateful to janka - we had a amazing time. :D

... pawing for the cold water lever. Downstairs in the lounge, meanwhile, the Wi-Fi didn't work, so I had to content myself with computers more akin to a 1980s Amstrad than a modern desktop PC. Oh well, it was only going to be a fleeting stay. On my walk around the city I was taken aback by the ludicrously mild weather, and before long I was walking around in a t-shirt and incurring the curious stares of warmly-wrapped locals. The centre of the city felt very small ...

... tables that separate each group of 4 seats. In Rome they have a non-stop train to the airport for 11€. I really love these airport trains. It runs every 30 minutes and takes about 35 minutes since the airport is pretty far from the city center. Maybe one day we will see a train to the Houston airports. Now the Rome airport was like the Rita evacuation all over again. What a mess! The airlines tell passengers to arrive two hours, at least, before their ...

First Week of School and Bratislava

... When the DJ played "Just Can't Get Enough" (the third Depeche Mode single), I started to dance pretty crazily. My calves are still a bit sore. For the more interesting part: yesterday me and four of my fellow American friends went to Bratislava for the day. We got up early, missed the train we wanted to get on, and got on the next one, although it took us to the outer train station, not the downtown one. Nonetheless, we bussed it to the center, and after initial confusion ...

Bratislava - more wiener-esque than Bratwurst

... try and skip some of Southern Italy to fit it in - we shall see. After Croatia I could potentially go a little further east to Serbia and Montenegro. Or try Malta. Or instead of finishing in Rome and flying back to London I could take a train and try and hit Paris, Switzerland, and Amsterdam. Too many choices! Sat by a Spanish family on the train - I tried to listen in and understand the conversation but only could make out a little. Got to Bratislava - rainy ...

... of Bratislava, however, are an unappealing legacy of its Communist past with unsightly factories and industrial areas and far too many of the grey tower apartment blocks which were provided for the workers. We travelled to Vienna for a day using the new Twin City Liner catamaran http://www.twincityliner.com/start2_e.h tml and I will write about this next week and how to 'do' Vienna at speed and in a day. Bratislava airport also ...
