Arrived at Linz today which is the third largest city in Austria. Population 200,000, and is home Austria's largest steel company. From here we travel in the historic Majestic Emperor train to Salsberg. The train is very ornate and gives you an idea of what it was like to travel in style so many years ago. We had a coach trip around the city and then a walking tour followed by 2 hours free time. We had ...

... Cathedral Treasury was also pretty special. Another wander through the narrow cobbled streets of the old town and the wide paved car-free streets of the new mall saw us back at our room for a rest. Well it is a "rest day". Dinner was BYO everything in the corridor outside our room, which happened to be the last one on the floor. There was a wide variety of food tonight, washed down with German beer and South African ...

We bought our lunch at a deli that had hot meat dishes, we had crumbed chicken legs and salad, ...

... to an ex-palace where his sister used to go to school. It is now a music school. The stunning old Palace Church (dating back to 788) is next door. The Gothic Church, although very plain outside is nothing short of stunning inside. In fact the whole hilltop is full of interesting buildings, a cemetery and a lovely forest / nature-walk area. On the way back through town Gunther and Greg ...

Love it here in Passau. Our last stop in Germany. Our guide who was French told us that Hitler fell in the river here as a young child and someone saved him. Pity. The old town is beautiful. They have a problem with flooding as they are on a peninsula with 3 rivers. The Danube, the Inn and the Iltz. A lot of the buildings have had to have all the plaster removed and replaced to second floor ...
