A Medieval Town

... until 1860 that that they decided to add the twin steeples. However, they did use the original plans from the 1200s. The cathedral has many intricate stained glass windows that are made from small pieces of glass. We diid a little souvenir shopping then went back to the river. This is where the oldest continuous operating restaurant by the same family is located. It was started 900 years ago to feed sausage ,sauerkraut and beer to the workers on ...

Have I mentioned I love Regensburg?

... And there are several other people that live up-town that I'm getting to know pretty well too. My flatmate, Danny, is from Sydney, Australia and is cool as hell. He comes out to eat or drink with us quite a bit. However, he is getting ready to take off on another 2 week stint out of the country (to London this time, last time was in Spain). But he is cool, very fun to hang out with. Surprisingly, our program director and teachers are cool as hell too! Griffin (the ...

Getting settled

... to IKEA, however I had a fun experience with getting on the bus before everyone else and getting shut in the door. Not only did my arm almost get detached, but I was alone on a 20 minute bus ride (and the next one didn't leave for 2 hours), the bus driver did finally let me off the bus though, and after a short little walk, I rejoined my friends at the train station (where many of the buses leave ...

The northern end of the bridge connects straight to the Old Town, where small streets and narrow alleyways host shops and cafes. At the eastern end is the Dom, St Peters Cathedral, (see pic), which is one of the best examples of Gothic architecture in Bavaria.

Another Parthenon to climb up?!

... down (a harder walk for me because it was at such an incline and I kept worrying I'd slip) to catch our boat back to Regensburg. The Danau is a very beautiful river, and watching the people boating, swimming, and kayaking in it was very entertaining.

After we returned, a group of us went to get gelato, then headed in separate directions to do our own thing, as most of us were still trying to get settled into our new home. I had a calm, uneventful night.

A 30 pound box isn't THAT bad... NOT

I absolutely love this town, aside from the construction outside my window that begins at 6:30 in the morning :(. I had planned on waking up at 7:45, giving myself enough time to get ready and meet our group at the restaurant we were to eat breakfast at that is only a little ways from my room. Actually, I could probably see it from my window. Yup, sure can. Well, the construction workers had a different plan for me. I woke up at 6:30 and couldn't go back to sleep. But I didn’t mind. I ...

Home Sweet Home at last

... I grabbed it and headed out of the baggage claim area, only to be greeted by my smiling director, Griffin. He informed me that we would be waiting for another participant who was on a plane from Chicago that had been delayed. She was originally supposed to land only 30 minutes after me, however her plane had been delayed 2 hours and 15 minutes due to, as we later found out, bad weather and an incident including dry ice and live turtles. We waited around ...
