Historical Traveler Reviews Hotel Domus Mariae Rome

Great Value

from anonymous

Situated just on the outskirts of Rome with Metro station very near (5 min walk). Located in own grounds and very quiet. We were there as part of a group of 18 and staff in the hotel couldnt do enough for us. Rooms clean, high ceilings, large windows, good sized bathrooms, adequate breakfast and very comformable lobby's and courtyard near bar downstairs. If ever back in Rome we would have no hesitation in re-visiting this hotel.

A great hotel in great grounds

A pleasant hotel situated on the edge of the city, thus getting there was either by taxi or the Metro. The station to use is Cornelia which is about 800 yards away although there are no directions to the hotel anywhere. Best to ask. It is set well away from the road and quiet, away from all the traffic noise. Booking in and out was no problem. The staff generally had a good grasp of english and were in the main helpful. They advertise the use of a swimming pool at a nearby hotel but didn't know the telephone number or the cost which was 5 euros !

Rooms were nicely air conditioned and the breakfasts filling. Would use it again.

Simply Fabulous!

It was a very picturesque and very delightful stay! The people were very sweet and helpful and the location was very convenient to the metro! It really made our stay in the Eternal City that little bit more fabulous! We were thoroughly satisfied!

Near Metro station Cornelia

Other than having to wait 5 hours past check-in we were very pleased with this hotel. The staff was helpful (they even recognized us personally during our 9 day stay). The hotel is set back about 200 meters from the street which is important in noisy Rome. The hotel is 2 blocks (400 to 500 meters) from the Cornelia Metro (subway) entry. No part of the tourist areas are over 20 minutes away!

Also, if a window is important to you make sure you don't get assigned to the 4th floor; you will only get a skylight. We stayed on the 4th floor and it did not bother us since we only slept there and never really stayed in the room.

The hotel offer a free full breakfast from 7:00 to 11:00 AM.

Absolutely terrible

We had the single most worst time of our lives at this establishment. We had to wait 7 our past our check-in time to get a room, after they sent us to 2 rooms that were under construction! They have no sattilite tv,(as advertised) no restaurant(as advertised) and the people there are rude. You would of thought they were paying us to stay there!

Please don't go here!

Very Clean

My husband and I are Americans living in Italy and stayed in Rome for the weekend. We were very impressed with the Hotel Domus Mariae. The rooms were small which is very typical of a European hotel. The bathrooms were very nice and very clean. The walls in the room were not decorated making the room look a little bare but you could tell that the walls had been freshly painted. The staff spoke English and were very accomodating; they let us check in hours before the scheduled check in time. The hotel is VERY close to a Metro station which makes exploring the city convenient. The hotel is also on it's own gardens making the evenings very quiet. By the way, if you have kids there is a McDonald's around the corner for quick snacks. I look forward to staying here again!

A smart place to stay in Rome

from anonymous

Had a block of three rooms for our family vacation to Rome. The hotel staff were extremely helpful. Most understood English. The morning buffet was always worth looking forward to. The rooms were cozy and kept clean. The bathrooms were first class (great showers). The hotel grounds were park-like with beautiful trees. The morning views were great in March with the misty mornings. The hotel is located (not central, though) (2 mile walk to the vatican) at almost the end of the Metro Line A. We did not try the buses as we were satisfied with the metro. Would love to return to Rome and would most likely try to stay at the Domus Mariae. Finally, the hotel was frequented by large groups on tour buses (probably the exceptional value) but the staff kept everything smooth.

Roma - The Eternal City

As the plane descends into Rome, the captain awakes you by announcing clear, sunny skies and 12 Celsius weather. The Italian man sitting to your left awakes with a start, and you can't help but admire his ability to sleep through an 11 and a half hour flight without stirring for either food or a bathroom break. He catches your eye and asks, in …

Travel day to Rome

Today we made our way to Rome. It was about a three hour drive, so we started the day off with another great Hilton breakfast and then hit the road at about 11am. The road was almost completely highway, so it was a nice easy drive, until we hit the busy streets of Rome.
We were able to enjoy some nice sights on the way down toward Rome of the …

Laundry day :-(

Today was the day we were dreading this whole trip: Laundry day! Luckily for us we found a Laundromat just down the road from our hotel, so we bagged all our stuff up and went down there expecting to spend the next few hours waiting and folding. We showed up and fortunately there was a guy working there who said that it would be the same price to …
