Another great breakfast- cereal, home made croissant and toast with meat and cheese. Plus boiled eggs and sweet stuff that I didn't eat. Good unsweetened yoghurt. Still raining.. Was going to head to Cinque Terre but it's raining there too so decided to stop on way at Genoa. Wasn't on my list but looks like it might be interesting and more to do in the wet. All the rivers swollen- heavy rain looks set in for couple days. Train to Milan ...

... of the Barbaresco type, and in the charming town of Barolo, the local castello is now a wine museum with interactive exhibits. Next door is also a small corkscrew museum!

Another day we drove to Raconiggi and toured the huge castello there, former summer home of the kings of Italy.

We learned that the rolling hills of the Piedmont region are not as closely regulated for quantity as were the forests of Chianti, and every available inch ...

We have lots of resources to help with the issues of the day(such problems) but I am so glad we had the stop in Gallarte, as the Italians we encounter are working or otherwise busy. The few that are simply loitering are either too old to know English or enjoying their iPods .
