Bus to Fethiye

... stunning coves and turquoise waters, up into the hills and pine plantations, through local villages and then back to the coast at Fethiye.

Staying at a hotel above the yacht marina and port which is huge and has some incredibly expensive and enormous yachts and motor launches, a lot of which are covered for winter. The population is about 80,000, and it's a big tourist spot for British people apparently, and obviously a prosperous and modern city.

Kas - The Amphitheatre and a Walk

There is a beautiful Amphitheatre next door to our hotel called Antiphellos. It was built of local limestone in the 1st century BCE, but was destroyed by an earthquake and rebuilt in the 2nd Century AD. It has 26 steps and faces the water. ... dance and families having dinner. We decided to go back to our secluded, boring town but we got a big surprise when we arrived there. We almost didn't recognize our place. Our street was closed for cars and turned into a pedestrian path The place looked so different full of lights, shops, music and restaurants. We walked for a bit and saw lots of people there, where did they come from? The next day I realized that all the people staying at our town go to ...

Happy Birthday, America!

... needed to see Meis (sounds like Mace), which is a Greek Island about a half hour away from Kas. Since pork isn’t readily available in Turkey, a lot of people venture there to get it. On our way to Aspendos, the people we were with said that Turks don’t understand the concept of architecture or landscaping. Another teacher and I discussed this as well. He feels Turkey is rawer whereas Greece is more manicured. As we pulled into Meis, I realized that the expats were ...
