... wind dies down, honestly! We have six hours to wait in Heathrow, where we will buy stuff that's either cheaper or more familiar than stuff in Brussels, we will eat something (farewell weight watchers, knew my trousers wouldn't be baggy for long..), probably take the mickey out of English travellers in their football shirts and sit in the lounge and write on the blog.

Very excited about going to Thailand!!
Brussels, Belgium naomianderic... and I mean no one was around. ****, it was the national holiday of Belgium and everything was closed, EVEN THE TOURIST SHOPS!! I walked around for a bit, saw some the monutments that you didn't need to enter and headed back to the hostel. Since I have been here I have polished off 3 books and just started my 4th. On a day like today the best thing to do, would be to grab the book, snacks, a couple of beers and head to the park for the day. But ...
Antwerp, Antwerpen, Belgium mike81... here! In Brugge, we ordered in English, and the waitress was talking to one person in French and another in Flemish. I saw a busker in Antwerp today speaking English, Danish and French. And the whole crowd was laughing at the jokes in each language! It seems most Belgians are relatively fluent in Flemish, French and English. Puts me to shame. So now I'm off to Israel on Sunday. So this has been a fun but exhausting week of 4 countries.
Brussels, Belgium bilkap... letter in the mail from Electrabel and needed to return the contract to them via mail. However, this meant that I needed to get stamps. Easy right? So I found out that I could buy them at the corner market, Delhaize. I looked up how to say "do you have stamps?", wrote it down, practiced it, and drew a little picture of an envelope with an arrow pointing towards the stamp. After all that, I grabbed my purse and headed down to buy them. I got in line, when my ...
Brusssels, Belgium nklenske... if we would meet but no. So, I started hitch-hiking back and I was surprised by the time it took before someone took me along. Anyhow I got a ride and reached Brussels North, I thought of passing by to say hi to people but finally I gave up and started walking in direction of Achim's place. I met a german girl doing au pair and being HC member on the way whom I had met at Onur's party. It was nice even if she was in a hurry we talked a little and stretched it longer and longer ...
Brussels, Belgium maplefantaIf you're attracted to art, history, design or excellent food, Antwerp is a terrific place to spend two or three days. It's a jewel of a small city, known to Europeans as wonderful weekend destination. But it's been largely undiscovered by Americans, although English is widely spoken: since so few people in the world speak Flemish (Dutch), many Antwerpans speak multiple languages. While it's no longer "the Metropolis" of Northern Europe that it once was, Antwerp has a major ...
Antwerp, Belgium janessmartart... all that happened here was truck after truck with gay dudes on the back dancing to loud dance music. Where is the imagination people!? Anyway I found a truck that was playing some songs that I enjoyed and I had nothing better to do, so I followed that until the parade ended thirty minutes later. All that kerfuffle got me in the mood to party, so I went home hoping that the people had come home and we could all go hell-for-leather. When I got there, the house ...
Brussels, Belgium amullett... butter. I say rubbish, white is the best chocolate. After the whole process was explained to us she then went into the process of pouring the chocolate into molds in order to make the candy pieces. We didn't get to see the big chocolate factory, I was bummed about that. But after all this was explained we got to try all three different types of chocolate. The dark chocolate was so rich that it was almost spicy, not hot spicy but real deep flavor, it lingers. You definitely needed a ...
Antwerp, Belgium meldog13... author at 12:30, transferred the books, then had a hot chocolate and talked. Konrad, the author, was a little boy living in Germany during the second World War and he remembers the American liberation and then the Americans leaving and the Russians being in control. His father somehow managed to escape being part of the military and was generally challenged trying to keep his principles while not offending those in control and putting his life and ...
