    ... leading under the ground where the people went to die. One of the most haunting things about Birkenau, for me anyway, was the train tracks. The tracks run all the way from the entrance to the stairs of the gas chambers and then they just stop. I have never seen the end of a train track, let alone one that stops in the middle of a field. Most of the time the men, women, and children on board the train were told that they were going to get right off the train and go down the stairs ...
