Today we awoke to a great breakfast in the hotel, complete with eggs and bacon which we were not expecting. Shortly afterwards, we boarded the bus for Rothenburg. On the way there, we were debriefed on all of the optional excursions of which we decided to do most of them to enhance this once-in-a-lifetime experience.

After a few hours on the bus, we arrived ...

Bayreuth rest day (11km light bikes) - Day 23

A travel blog entry by sydandval on Jun 06, 2015

We got up rather late, for us, and had a shower (the water yesterday afternoon was tepid - too cold for a shower) with hot water. The hotel provided a good continental style breakfast over which we dawdled, then back to our room to do some work on the blog and read. You know how you read brochures and they tell you all the great things about a city, and when you get there, it doesn't necessarily turn out like you thought it would? Well, that’s NOT how it turned out in Rothenburg! All the brochures and guides describe a quaint, medieval village, up on a hill, surrounded by a wall that survived and thrived throughout the ages, and that’s exactly what it turned out to be!

Dresden to Bayreuth by train (2km) - Day 22

A travel blog entry by sydandval on Jun 05, 2015

Travel day today to get the start of the Main radweg path. A total of 4.5hrs on the train - 2.5 regional train Dresden to Hof (nasty push up onto double decker train from the platform) then a 1 hour wait because the connection here was 4 minutes. We could have made it as the next train was on the otherside of the arrival platform but it was only a single carriage train and there were already some bikes on board. We had lunch on the platform and ...

Malianske Lazne

Our day began in Cesky Krumlov and is to end in Malianske Lazne. The spelling of these names certainly is not easy and I am afraid our pronunciation bears no resemblance to Czech speak. Emma does much better than I in terms of both. I must say in the absence of my tech savvy husband my daughter is doing well throughout her trusty iPhone with downloaded maps, pins dropped at needed locations have served us well and at the moment she is the one handling the Czech money. I know yes ...
