... for its fort, up on the hill. It’s an odd place for a fort, given the surrounding hills are even higher and, therefore, hard to defend from our perspective. The fort is famous for its 'bottle’ dungeon where errant individuals where pushed through a small square hatch into a ‘bottle’ shaped cell. The hatch would be duly shut and not re-opened until the persons had died from dehydration and/or starvation. Charming.
The fort was ...
... but thanks to Andrea’s “cola” weaving skills and Armando buying our tickets for the bus we even managed to get some arepas to eat before we left. Once we arrived Tita took us to get some empanadas for breakfast, which were very tasty. Then onto her swimming pool for the perfect antidote to our tiring journey.
My time in Margarita is now drawing to a close, it has been a great place to relax before the hard work starts!
... albeit an experience. We bought the pemier substandard tickets (I do not know either!) although not taking full advantage of the "Pemier" style up the stairs behind the Canteen on the lower decks!!! (see why we were fooled) Look at the pic. It was not too bad but daunting nonetheless. As for Margarita I did not stay long, wanting to get to Salto Angel ...
Magarita , Isla Margarita, Venezuela jameskanga...
... it was found ! Joyous moments are rare and this was like finding a fourleaf clover ! Over the moon, and running 15 minutes late we left the beach posada and walked, no make that ran, into town to the bus station (the long (safe) route), this took us 10 minutes longer than expected. We arrived just in time to get on the Por Puesto that was jammed to capacity, we found space right at the back when two people scrunched up to make space. I was sweating like a banshee. Our bags ...
Isla Margarita, Venezuela kingsandems... the members share in the bank´s profit, which comes from the interest they charge. The simplicity and self-sufficiency of the bank comes from the fact that all the funds are internal to the community. Also, the bank members themselves decide exactly on the governing structure, the interest rate they charge etc. They need two treasurers and a president, who maintain very simple accounts. They just report to Fundefir their monthly transactions.... The ...
Porlamar, Venezuela sheenasumaria... friendly people, told me about all the things I could to in the area, invited me to whole bunch of beer throughout the whole journey and then they just happened to be headed to the same town as me - Juangriego - so they invited me to drive with them, as they had a car, saving me some 30-40.000 bolivares for the taxi there. But that wasn't even all - they invited me even to dinner as well! What gentlemen! Then they also offered to share a hotel ...
Porlamar, Coastal Islands, Venezuela thrudur... at lykke. Ditte tager hjem ...
Isla Magarita, Venezuela woodluck...
