After a good nights sleep we caught the train to Versailles. The Palace of Versailles is a very opulent set of buildings. The royal family of France lived here for many years until they were forced out by the french people during the French Revolution. The rooms have a lot of marble, gold and ceiling alfresco. ... are not sure how they managed to get it back in, but they did. Some of the stations were closed and at one it looked like the police were stopping them going up the stairs, so they were trying to get back on, and so it was a bit of a nightmare journey. We found a reasonable place to watch but of course we were late and there were already lots of crowds. There were 2 lots of barriers and some people were right next to the road barriers and at first ...

... The ethnic mix is immediately evident in the food shops - bakeries with bagels, cakes with poppyseed, and walnut fillings (even a pretty close replica of beigli) and a range of cakes that would be at home in Glenhuntley or Bondi plus felaffel and other middle eastern takeaway fare. Yes I did have a very fat poppyseed slice! The district also houses a wide array of clothing, fashion, jewelery, art and ...
