Not much to write about...
My only reason to come to Houston was to visit the NASA space center. Frankly, it was unimpressive at best.
Houston downtown looked very busy, huge and un-inviting and I felt very tired at the same time. So I decided not to do anything else in Houston. I checked into a motel close to NASA and crashed.
Tomorrow morning, I leave for the Bayou country in Louisiana. My destinations are going to be Lafayette, Avery Island, New Orleans and anywhere else that looks ...
Vom „Old Europe“ in die Neue Welt

Cancelled flight and problem solving
The trip did not begin well. We were still driving along Mt. Diablo Blvd. towards the freeway when we received a call from United. Our 6:30pm departure was delayed until 10:45pm. We were scheduled to arrive Austin after 3am. Yoiks. We decided to continue on to the airport before, of course, sometimes they can find a new plane and leave earlier than planned. Despite the pouring rain, the delay was due to aircraft maintenance.
But then, along the Bay Bridge, ...
Day 30: Airport
Today I took my friend and his family back to the airport. They were going to France. I had a lot of fun with them. I am very thankful because they let me into their house and took me to a lot of fun places while I was in France with them. They are great people. My vacations were ...

Also, with Aprih's degree being a correspondence degree, in other words an online degree, offered through the American University of London it would be a short trip from Dublin if and when she has to present her master's thesis. Being online means its highly flexible and in addition there are no time restrictions, which is to say you can finish a course in as little as four weeks or four months, with no change in fees. The total cost for ...

Historical Traveler Reviews Hotel Derek Houston Galleria
Disappointed
We stayed at the Hotel Derek for two nights - granted, we checked in VERY late the first night - after midnight - but was treated very rudely by the desk clerk. She was EXTREMELY slow and inhospitable and was rude when I asked her to repeat information - her back was turned to me when she was giving me our room number. There were several extremely drunk people milling around the lobby - one person passed out in a chair. There was a problem with the heater in our room and it was freezing for most of the day - instead of switching us to another room, maintenance came (two guys) and pitched ladders and inspected the vents for thirty minutes. They climbed on the bed and were crawling all around the bathroom where personal items were. We had brunch in the morning; the service was OK - the prices not worth it. Overall, I would consider going back one more time for comparison, but it won't be anytime soon.
Wonderful 5* Hotel
I spent 2 nights at this hotel. I found it based on discount sites and their description of the hotel. I located the hotel on Expedia for $89/night. I felt like I was paying too little for the wonderful and fantastic service I got. It really is a 5 star hotel. They have a shuttle service that will take you anywhere within 3 miles. This includes the Galleria, restaurants and clubs/bars. They accomodated every request, i.e. restaurant reservations and starch to iron clothes.
I would definitely stay here again, and would recommend it to everyone.
The one thing that was a bit odd, were the bathroom doors in the rooms were sliding, solid doors. Parking is by valet only. But compared to the beautiful rooms, very comfortable beds, excellent service and a wonderful ambience, those things fall to the bottom of the list.
Hotel Derek is Mordern Class!
We really enjoyed our stay at Hotel Derek. The staff was very friendly, and tried very hard to please. You do have to use their valet parking services, and that can add up. The rooms are very nice, well decorated and large!
Unique
Truely a unique experience. Very nice and fun. Rooms were spacious.
AC/Heating was well balanced. Just the right amount of night white-noise. Very creative room lighting. Bright for reading and dimmable for a softer touch. Just remember to add $18 for mandatory valet parking when you comparison price it. We will definitely stay there again.
Very good hotel
The staff was extremely courteous and friendly. They never complained, even though I had more than three guests (although they made up for it since I paid for everyone's overnight Valet parking).
This hotel has a very odd retro feel to it, but it's not all that distracting. The beds were also *extremely* comfortable. As an FYI, you get a free escort to any location within 5 minutes of the hotel--so there's no need to drive to Pappadeaux's or the Galleria.
Overall, I am extremely satisfied and would highly recommend Hotel Derek.
Very Pleased
My husband and I enjoyed our stay very much. Wouldn't think about staying anywhere else next time in Houston. Very comfortable rooms.
Very much unique and unexpected. Would stay for business or pleasure.
Great Hotel!
My company put me at this hotel on a recent trip. I had business at the Galleria across the street. Beautiful, modern designed hotel, great rooms, and great for working, big desk, super T1 Internet, nice staff. All in all an excellent experience. I use to stay at Doubletree Post Oak, too worn out, no more.
Clean Hotel Derek
Top notch design. Loved all the lighting in the room. Sheets smelled like my own at home. Fresh and clean. Husband and I enjoyed our one night there. A 5 star hotel gets one more star from me!
My Favorite Place in Houston
I love the Derek! This is where I stay anytime I am in Houston. The rooms are fabulous - the beds have featherbeds, amazigly comfortable comforters and about 6 pillows. You get a robe and awesome bath products. The staff is curteous. The bar is trendy and full of prominent figures. I once saw a famous baseball player there. I love this place - I can't speak enough about it. And here is a hint - if you use Hotwire to book it, you can get the room for $87 a night. What more can you ask for - luxuary, service and style.
Unique to Houston
Hotel Derek is a "must stay." This is Houston's first modern boutique hotel and they really outdid themselves.
Stylish, cool and elegant, this hotel has great rooms and a terrific restaurant/bar filled with locals and hotel guests. The hotel staff was extra friendly and helpful.
I travel to Houston all the time.....Hotel Derek is the most unique hotel in the city.
