Am Bahnhof Grindelwald, Bernese Oberland, Swiss Alps, Switzerland, 3818
... be seen. It was just me and the mountains, it was nice. In the end I was very glad the gondola was delayed because I would have been very disappointed to have missed entering the path down the misty mountain Schilthorn. I found out just now however that the delay was caused by a poor paraglider who was killed after being caught in the cables of the gondolas.
I was very tired by the end. It was 1700. I took a short walk in Murren then left to catch the bus back to Lauderbrunnen.
... chalets. Some chalets were so close together in narrow streets that I'm sure you would be able to hear the neighbour’s conversations.
We went back to Interlaken and went to a chocolate shop to buy some Pave which I had heard about and to do some grocery shopping and then get in to cook dinner before the kitchen got crowded.
Woke up to a cloudy day but it didn't look too bad on the webcam from the Jungfrau so we decided to catch the train to Grindelwald and decide from there whether we went further. As we were on the train, the sun came out so we decided to go up to Jungfraujoch which is called "The Top of Europe". From Grindelwald, we got a cog train to Kleine Scheidegg then changed for the final cog train which would go to the top. Some ...
Interlaken, Swiss Alps, Switzerland kiama_on_tourWe had booked onto the Golden Pass Panoramic train but woke up to rain so thought it mightn't be very panoramic. Despite the rain, it was a scenic trip. We were heading for Interlaken and had to change trains twice. Greg was concerned that the guy at the train station had booked us on these trains and there was only 5 minutes between trains (this is the Greg who has us at the train station an hour before it goes). We didn’t have to worry ...
Interlaken, Swiss Alps, Switzerland kiama_on_tourI wasn't sure where in Switzerland I wanted to go after Zurich, but I knew I wanted it to be near some mountains and away from crowds. The hostel I found was highly recommended and was in a valley in the mountains near Interlaken, so that’s what made my decision. Turns out my somewhat random choice was a good one, putting me in one of the most beautiful areas in Switzerland, according to some ...
Lauterbrunnen, Swiss Alps, Switzerland tidolu14... a park at Grindelwald, 20k south of Interlaken called Eigernordwand, this place is a true Swiss mountain village underneath the shadows of the mountains surrounding Jungfau and Schilthorn, cows with bells ringing everywhere and getting herded into their barns for the night. The hiking season doesnt start for a couple of weeks so it is nice and quiet, there is only one other tent in the campground.
Grindelwald, Swiss Alps, Switzerland jimandelle... up bright and early, ready to tackle the slopes. The bunny slopes! I've already told you about that, so I won't rattle on anymore, but I learned how to ski on the Swiss Alps. OH! And i skied with Bode Miller. You know, the guy that just won a World Cup race in Switzerland ... Google it ... the race was actually on the next hill over ... Lauberhorn (I think). So I skied with Bode Miller. Not necessarily in the ...
Grindelwald, Switzerland fyregirl... all pumped up about it, have our swimsuits on. We get to the tent base where we put on our equipment, stinky wet suites, helmets, and all....and then comes the thunder. It wasn't raining yet, but it didn't look good. Our guide assured us that the storm "seemed" to be headed the other way, and that he had a telephone which gave him up to the minute satelitte weather info. whew! Thank God, because I don't want to be like that group of 21 ...
Interlaken, Switzerland annasmithToday was the first real day of rain. Today, all of the mountain peaks were shrowded in clouds and any substntial hiking would be minimally enjoyable. However, despite the weather, I thought I might try my adventure luck in Grindelwald. Grindelwald was a base town for lots of higher elevation destinations in the Berner Oberland, so I figured, why not. I took the BOB train to Grindelwald and starting walking around. Grindelwald is the ultimate Heidi-town, plenty of ...
Interlaken, Switzerland sjg209... are still some gems to inform you about. The snow here is pretty good and we have had some really sunny days. I have given up on my snowboarding, realising that I don't give it enough time in order to improve my skills and skiing is pretty cool anyway. So I will have to make a proper holiday sometime in the future to get my snowboarding knowledge up to a satisfactory level. Now did I tell you all about my trip to Zurich? I think not!!! A couple of weeks ago I ...
