... Sforzesco for a brief walk around - it is huge and beautifully built with rounded brick turrets and huge courtyards. We decided not to catch the metro but walk through the city, it is more interesting that way. We then visited the Duomo for an inside look. We took the audio tour, visited the crypt and found a cardinal Alfredo Ildefonso Schuster who was honoured for his contributions. He might be related! We then decided to go up to the roof of the Duomo ( ... Steps). What ...

    ... of our journey.

We were ready, but the Swiss weren't! The most memorable part of the journey was not the beautiful scenery, the picture postcard lakeside villages, the mountains, or the waterfalls. Instead, it was the 2 hour queue waiting to get through the 17km Gotthard-Strassentunnel on the A2. That meant our planned stop in Lucerne was abandoned, and we got to Strasbourg at about 9pm. In time for a late dinner in the restaurant next to the Ibis hotel we stayed at, and ...

Well obviously, if you're going to drive in Italy on the first weekend in August, you need to be going north. That was lucky!

Having finished packing up the car with what seemed to be three times as much as we brought with us - how come it fit getting here, and doesn't on our way back? - we added a trip to a supermarket to fill up with cheap booze and Baci chocolates - ah that explains it!

    ... wonderful mood.

Our next goal was the Duomo but we were again side tracked en route by an unexpected pleasure. We passed San Maurizio al Monastero Maggiore which is part of the former Benedictine monastery from the 9th century built on a Roman site which also contained the vineyard of Leonardo Da Vinci (he needed to own land in order to live in Milan and paint). The ceiling and every interior wall (and parts of the exterior as well) is covered ...

Saw Milan... Well the train station

A travel blog entry by sydalextrip on Jul 19, 2013

Alright so we had a pretty interesting last day and a half. We ended up spending too much time in Barcelona and had to run for the Metro to catch a train to the airport. Missed the train by under 5 minutes so we had to grab a taxi. 25 euro later we are at the airport as they start boarding our plane. We were those idiots running the entire airport to catch the plane. Made it, got on the plane which was only about 2 hours. Once ...
