I had shivers going down my spine as we crossed the border into Argentina.. my mind being cast back to Rosa incident and my great escape a month earlier. I reminded myself to say I was Maltese if anyone asked. The Argentinian side of Iguassu Falls is meant to be a spectacular sight to behold and all the travellers I met who had been put it in the top 5. Well, all excited and raring to go...(unusual for me at 7am) .. we were forced to stop five hundred meters beyond the border. The road ahead ...
Foz de Iguacu, Brazil dendenLeaving Argentina behind, it was an exceptionally smooth border crossing into Brazil and we found ourselves on Brazilian soil and at the hotel 40 minutes after leaving Argentina. More than the obvious signs of being in a new country; new passport stamp, new money and in this case a whole new foreign language it also felt very different; a lot rougher, not as manicured and with more obvious signs of people desperately down on their luck. Our first mission was to get to an ATM and procure some ...
Foz de Iguacu, State of Parana, Brazil gareth.alanna Hola!
The last few days were spent having drinks in the sun in Paraty and then travelling by bus to Sao Paulo and then a flight to Foz de Iguacu. As some of you guessed right - we took the combi option. (What was the person drinking who thought we would do a 2 week mountain bike ride???;)) Anyway, Ivo was refusing to take the 16 hour bus ride (and i was quite happy to sort of allow this little blip in the budget).
The travelling all went pretty easy, apart from the restaurant staff for...
We left Uruguay on a 13 hour bus ride from Punta del Este to Porto Allegre in Brasil. Bus journeys in South America seem to be very hit and miss depending on which company you go with. On this journey we must have picked the right company because there was food provided, and the seats folded right back to almost vertical. We arrived at Porto Allegre refreshed at about 11am and decided we'd head onto Iguassu in south west Brasil the same day - thus saving on accomodation for another night. Thi...
Foz Do Iguassu, Brazil janegloverWow.... It is very interesting to see how different two countries can be... The Brazilian side is much more like Manaus and has a more edgy feel to the laid back quaint little town on the Argie side.... We have stayed in a great hotel and things are definitely cheaper here.... but as the say in the movies... "its the little differences"... such as 1 Buffet breakfasts that have loads of fruit rather than white bread only.... 2 Buffet restaurants that do food by the kilo.... 3 Sweetener (liquid...
Foz de Iguacu, State of Parana, Brazil kingsandemsHello folks, we arrived of Foz De Igauzzu, after a long bus ride from Rio, stopping briefly in Sau Paulo. The total time was about 16 hrs, but as it was an over night ride, we got to Foz in the early morning, ready to face the day. Foz was a fairly small, laidback town, compared to Rio at least, very close to the Argentine, and Paragauy borders. At this point, we had met another traveller, an American guy, called Jason, and the three of us shared a room at the Hotel De Rey. The main reason pe...
Foz De Igauzzu, Brazil morph100I never have to see another waterfall given that I´ve seen the best in the world... the Iguassu Falls. For those of you who have visited, you will agree with me in saying that visiting these falls is a spiritual, uplifting, wet and truly memorable experience. I have to search long and hard in the history of my travels to find a better natural sight. It is the grandeur and size of the falls that make them so impressive. Standing atop Devil´s Throat... the highlight of the falls is a positive m...
Foz Do Igaucu, Brazil shanewilsonEveryone kept saying that Foz de Iguaçu or the Great Waters (direct translation of the Indian name) was amazing. I really wondered how amazing can I waterfall be before the last 2 days I have spent exploring these waterfalls. The answer: unbelievably amazing!!! Gorgeous, breath-taking, splendid! and kind of scary too to see such a huge power of nature so close. The last 2 days, I have explored the falls in all dimensions, from all angles, from above and under, right and left, every possible a...
Foz de Iguacu, Brazil skalaoraThe falls are packed. I get their shortly after opening. There is a 1.2 km path through the jungle with some tremendous views. The first glimpse of the falls is breathtaking and it just better. There are over 275 falls spread out over 2.5 km. Each of the falls would be gorgeous. The largest are spectacular. The combination is unlike anything else. The walk culminates with a walkout to the Garganta Falls where the spray offers a cooling shower. The roar fills another sense. I turn around a wal...
Foz do Iguazu, Brazil will.traveller
... catwalk crosses over the calm Iguazu River, with no sight at all of the Falls. If I didn't know where I was going, I would think was in the wetlands. In the distance, a cloud of mist hovers above the waterline and the low buzz increasingly gets louder and louder. We turned a corner on the catwalk, walked up to the railing and there it was.

My heart nearly stopped. My jaw dropped. I got that fuzzy and funny feeling inside when I see something great ...
