... the piazza in front of the massive Cathedral with its ornate facade. A gentleman in the town hall across from it struck up a conversation with us and said it took 12 generations of builders to complete the structure. The town had a nice semi urban vibe to it and I noticed it is on the main train line between Florence and Rome. Easy to revisit without a car. :-)

Despite intending to go to the Mamore waterfalls and Spoleto we sat in the hot sunshine after breakfast and took in the beautiful views. Any sign of the previous days rain had gone and replaced by crystal clear skies and the buzz of bees in the lime trees. Having decided to get up and leave Alessandria by 9.30am at the latest, everyone met in the hotel for the buffet brekkie which was included in the rate. There was loads on offer, hot and cold items, pastries, fruit and everything in between...even enough for Allan! So after a healthy breakfast of fruit (yes you did read that correctly!) and a hilarious description of Ian and Allan's 'iron curtain' of the night before, made from pillows and cushions 'just in case' it all got too ...
