    ... there were a few tears and even a couple of falls. We continued uphill to the top of the mountain where we took in the views and had a picnic lunch. It was windy but a great place for a picnic. After walking back downhill (I was not going on the Funivia again), I spent the afternoon wandering around town.     ... is the cheaper beach holiday area where factories once had holiday camps for their workers. Today there are caravan parks along the shore where people head every summer. Gubbio is lovely. Very few tourists visit here so most of the people are locals. The hotel is in an old building which is hundreds of years old.     ... sort of a question from the expectant way she (and the rest of the group) were looking at me. The jig was up, so I had to say 'sorry, but I really don't speak any Italian', which gave everyone a good laugh. She apologised and went back through the safety briefing in English, which included 'don't hang back to take photos as it is very easy to get lost'. The rest of the tour she explained a few bits and pieces in English to us, which was really nice of her.

    Happy birthday to our eldest son Stephen, we hope it is a good one.

    After leaving Siena, we rode cross country to Pesaro. The ride was about 250km - one of our longest yet - we really have been taking it easy! The scenery changed as we rode east from the pencil pines of Tuscany to the lush green pastures of Umbria.
