... and walk around the castle. We stopped for a drink at the cafe with view of the lake and found they had our favourite scharz or black/dark beer. After ordering that we discovered they had ice cream sundaes so we ordered one of those too. A surprisingly nice combination. Adrian & I went back to the Cathedral and climber the tower, not as tall as York, but still great views of the city ...

After breakfast we headed to the small ferry that shuttles across the estuary between Poland and Germany. A short crossing that costs nothing but one wonders why no bridge has been built. ... hospital during WWII. There were very lavish state rooms, reception rooms, the throne room etc. When we got to Malchow, our hotel was on the canal in a delightful small village. However, the cobblestone road turned out to be quite noisy at night. Apart from that, it was a lovely hotel which had been there a long time, and lots of its history was on display. The outdoor beer garden was in an excellent position along the water, in full view of ...

Today a 30min meandering walk to view the exhibits at the Neues Museum on Berlin's Museum Island. Then drive back to Hamburg via the impressive Schwerin Palace, a grand ducal residence and seat. Unfortunately we missed the guided tour and made do with an audio commentary via headphones. We lost half an hour during the drive due to a traffic jam resulting from an inexplicable transition from autobahn to a single lane road ending at a set of traffic lights. ...
