        ... there was the steep descent of course, followed by many more minor ups and downs, but continuously gorgeous. The Basque style houses add to the charm. There are sheep, cows, ducks, and all is brilliant green. So although we only walked 15 kms today, we had the lowest speed which doesn't surprise me, as we plodded up, and when up stopped all the time to admire the views. Got to this hotel, at a small town just about 16 or so ...

        ... see inside. Beautiful. Then we could have ploughed along the GR uphill and down dale, or leave the GR and walk along the road to St Palais, which we did, as we weren't sure that we would have found the right place to turn off if we had continued along. The markings are fantastic, but not if you are looking for an exit to somewhere else. So we confirmed with people along the way that this was indeed the road to St Palais, and arrived ...

        ... sad to think it will all end in a few more days! We have just come back from another walk around this town. It is so beautiful - and I think another of les plus beaux villages de France. But it is not just a picture showpiece, it is a living place. We just had a walk round the ramparts - fabulous, but didn't have any camera with us, so will have to take a few extra shots as we leave in the morning. Off to dinner ...
