... at 8.30 am. A quick visit to the Tourist information office and we set off on a quite valley walk along the bloated almost overflowing river. That's all we can mange today! 3 hrs later having seen a deer head on, numerous wild flowers and stood in a meadow eating our lunch (no logs or seats) we return in the nic of time before we are forced to hibernate in Elvis for another night while the storms rage up above. ... of it. It's windy hilly back streets with tunnels and ancient homes was quite a sight. Best of all we found an Opticians to repair Clive's broken glasses and they were just like Spectrum. Free repairs and happy faces. He's been wearing sunglasses for 3 weeks! The thunderstorms are persistent and we are forced back into Elvis early for yet another noisy rumbling night. ... pass, every gorge brings us to another valley and another soaring landscape. The folds of layered in some places are fascinating, telling of hundreds of millions of years of seabed formation and forces of the earth's crust
One section took us through a large ski resort village and were thrilled to see that this year's Tour de France travels through here on 22nd July. ...
... at how soft the snow was- just like Fairy floss. We drove on towards Grenoble and then Gap where we were staying the night. We drove through the most amazing picturesque scenery. Towering mountains and old fortresses either side as we moved along the valleys. Just stunning.
The hotel we stayed in was in a good location with the host being very friendly, he reminded us of Gabriel Gate. Gap was a gorgeous little town easily explored by foot from just outside the hotel.

Aside from these minor hiccups we managed to play some card games and relax, do a night ski run with torched from the bar with some alcohol in the bloodstream, make snow angels and snow men, drink wine and eat cheese. We called in the NZ new year at a bar on the slopes and watched a night torchlight ski run by the ESF ski instructors complete with fireworks. A cracker of a holiday really. Worth the hiccups.
