We arrived at our next campsite, in the heart of the Chaine des Puys, an extraordinary area which consists of 80 extinct volcanoes which were active from 60,000 to 6,000 years ago. There are numerous hot and cold springs, the most famous of which is Volvic. In the evening we decided to drive to the top of the nearby Puy de Dome, at 4806 feet the ...
Royat, Auvergne, France oldagetraveller... opportunity to make our lunch which usually consisted of a baguette filled with pate, cheese and or meat. We would stop along the way some where for lunch in a park or a Chateau. The cruising along the canals was incredible especially going through the locks. One part took us over one of the longest viaduct in Europe at a place called Briare where we stayed for the night. The first couple of days was heavy going but my knees and legs settled down that ...
Clermont-Ferrand, Auvergne, France caroladele... trousers and the appearance of the sun were a good excuse to put on a skirt, I thought. We had planned a long slow drive with an end destination of Le Puy en Velay, south of Clermont-Ferrand. We had programmed all the side roads into the SatNav, so I could enjoy the views of the Loire without having my nose in the map book. Almost immediately we set off, the clouds moved in, but it always seemed brighter in front of us ...
Clermont-Ferrand, Auvergne, France born2bongoI turned in fairly late last night, but had to be up fairly early this morning, since I needed to make the drive to Vichy for lunch. I was on the road a little after 8:00. It rained much of the way up, but the drive was still beautiful. The route took me very near the Festival site we've used the last two years and will again this year. It also took me near several of the volcanoes in the center of France. They're easily recognizable due to their ...
Vichy, Auvergne, France joelmeekerOn Le Weekend we met a group of the French kids and clearly they fell in love with us. So shortly after that weekend they wanted to party with us again as soon as they could. And did we ever. Quentin had a number of us over to get to know us a little better. A couple 40s later we were much better acquainted. It was the start of a beautiful friendship.
Vichy, France beccx... house or at La Goulais, which was our home for the beginning of the year. Friday night we went to the discotheque, The Loft in Vichy. It was a pretty fun night. Their drinks are so weird here...when you order say a vodka seven, or a rum and coke, you pay for the shot, and then the mix. It can get pretty expensive. It's time like this I really wish I drank beer, but I just can't do it. Its about a 45 minutes train ride away to get to Clermont. Thais, a girl from Brazil ...
Clermont Ferrand, France beccx... Very cute, very clean. That night I met up with some people from my class, very randomly and we went to the Horse Races at the Hippdrome. It was pretty neat, and everyone was pretty cool. They had a heard of begals come out too, with guys on horses dressed in traditional English hunting outfits too. It really made me miss Kosmo. That night we headed to Le Gloulais. That's our pub. They love us there.
Vichy, Auvergne, France pilleWe left Paris and drove through the lovely French countryside to Contikis own Château de Cruix near Lyon. There were two other groups there at the same time and we had a big party in the "Bat Cave" (the cellar turned into mini club). I got rather drunk and dozed off on the spiral stone staircase!!
